Whining sounds

So today i was driving home from work and i noticed that i wasn't building that much boost approx. 2psi. Then i notice a whining sound kinda like sirens. I also noticed a grinding sound, like metal on metal. It still drives but i can't get up to speed very fast and the sounds are annoying. What could be my problem and ho could i check??

Thanks guys

Nick

what mods do you have? what if any have you installed recently? is 2psi the max amount of boost you can build? first things i would do is a boost leak test and check the turbo for any shaft play. kind of sounds like the lower intercooler pipe isnt secure

yeah if you're only boosting to 2 psi, i'd definitely do a boost leak test. plus the whining may also be a sign of a leak.

pop your hood, take the intake off, check your turbo with flash light, (fins) check for shaft play. Sounds like your turbo is gone. (since you posted whining and metal sounds. -check your i/c pipes. gl man

If it has a grinding sound check for shaft play in the turbo.

+1 on the turbo.

I hope it's something minor though ... if the turbine is hitting the housing it'll make a squealing siren-like sound like you are describing if it tries to spool.
