I had an s2k in college and was more than enough, but then I drove around usually like 2-4am and not many of my friends knew I had a car so I never needed back seats. All the grocery fit in trunk as well, if not they went in the front seat. EVO's trunk, rear seats, 4 wheel drive system all have advantage over s2000 in terms of utility so its a good choice I guess. But make sure your area is not one of the places that are known to have EVO stolen or vandalized. Each car has certain cities or states where they are exceptionally high risk in vandalism/theft.

Ive also seen another SilverVIII up by the mall with a CF hood, BOV and thats all i saw before it turn down the road, and i also saw a yellow EvoVIII with back pouder coated stalk rims at Best Buy one day, and theres also a yellow lancer with an evo wing and tails, and Chrome wheels, i have seen it a few times...
That's now my white IX. IMO, they are asking far too much for the silver MR they have on the lot now, its got a lot of miles. When you get down to it, they probably got more than they should have for the white one too; but it fit the budget and I snatched it up.

I've seen the decked out yellow Lancer a few times, the red 8, and the yellow 8 with the cf hood + extras. There's a white 9 MR in the Boro' and there is a GG owned by a guy at Interstate Mitsubishi (plus that one still on the lot at BF Auto). Got a friend moving back from Texas with an 8, so all in all; we've got far too many in this small city of Erie. Ha. But seriously, where the hell are the blue ones!?!

As for gas mileage, it's not too bad if you stay out of the boost (but then why are you driving an Evo, I know, I know)

Gas wise, it sucks. Thats my biggest cost. I have a personal finance class and we had to track all of our cash inflow and outflow and i spend more on gas than beer, lol. Good luck to you
You dont drink enough sir I spend around 50-60 a week on beer... bars are expensiiiiiiiiiiiiive. But neways its great for college, enough room for all ur stuff, fits alot of people and when your running late for class gets you there quick

i had mine for my last year in college and i don't regret having it at all. You're gonna get door dings regardless but no one messed with my car or anything like that, i didn't catch where you went to school but it really depends on that too. I went to a small college (<5000) so people know who you owns what car and as long as people respect you, they'll respect your car.

Plus, girls love it...its a great car to hit up the town in...believe me

plus like eveyrone has said storage is suprisingly good, just make sure you have enough on hand to handle gas/maintenance...get the mod bug though and you're gonna rack up the cc bills fast...like me...and i didn't even do that much yet

Your White IX looks perfect when i see it on the streets! , i have also seen a white IX parked at a business office (it appears to be) right near 26th an Asbury, right by sheets? it appears to be exactly like yours but im not really sure?

What color VIII does your friend moving back from Texas have?

And for Evos in Erie there are suprisingly quite a few, and quite a few ricers... and for blue evos...never seen one. ha

I had mine through college. Sat in my garage back home during the winter though. Didn't want to deal with alternate side parking etc.

I put about 14k on my car in 2 years of college.

If your paying for the Evo I would wait. Gets pretty stressful at times during school trying to afford the car and be able to keep a social life.

It's not a bad car for college. I got my Evo during the last half of my fifth year, so it didn't see too much duty on campus. I was just smart about it, parking farther away from entrances so that I can minimize being next to cars and potentially getting door dings.

As far as vandalism, nothing serious ever happened to my car, though once a guy spewed soda all over the windshield and on the driver's side window (which was cracked open a bit since it was summer, and a little bit of soda got on the seats, but not much). It sucks, but it wasn't anything that wouldn't come off with a car wash. Also, the driver's side of my car also got peed on that summer, though I suspect it was peed on by this guy whose girlfriend I slept with... plus the poor guy drove a WRX wagon :P

Regarding practicality, the gas mileage isn't anything fantastic, but it's nothing that will make you cry, unless you just drive THAT much. Throughout my first year of ownership, I averaged around 20.8 mpg, which isn't terrible, considering the fact that a lot of my driving was from home to school and back or from home to work and back, both of which were 15- and 30-mile round trips, respectively, and it was common for the trip back from work to be in traffic, as I usually got off of work a little bit after 4PM. Also, the fact that it has four doors and a trunk definitely made life easier when it came to moving (compared to a lot of other cars that people with Evos may have cross-shopped), though it would've been nice to have a folding rear seat or at least a pass-through of some sort. But it's no big deal, as moving is usually once, maybe twice a year for a college student.

Downsides? As a college student, obviously super unleaded gas prices and synthetic oil changes will burn a hole in your wallet, depending on how much you drive, so definitely try to ride with a friend with a lower-end Civic or something when it comes to going to parties, bars or road trips. And the crappy turning radius doesn't really help when trying to pull into a relatively tight spot when it's your only option. Expect to make a lot more three-point turns than ever. And going off of how some people tend to want to put fluids on your car, you will experience a level of paranoia like never before.

You will have to excuse Jordan....he is the only 12 y.o I know that has an evo. Paris Hilton jokes are a little over-the-head...try Dora the Explorer.

Its a toss up..

I took mine to school for a month or so..

1) you find yourself driving around campus all day long looking to show off or just drive around

2) gas mileage not good always sitting at cross walks waiting for walkers (15 minutes to go 3 blocks takes 2 minutes to walk it)

3) not like i would put my mini fridge on my recaros anyways so its not the car i would use to transport junk

4) jealous kids.. Lots of nice cars get junked on college. Saw 2 kids fooling around an STI last year on the walk home from the bar, and the kids were wrestling around and BOOM right into the drivers door of the STI knocking off the mirror.

(I know there are nicer cars on campus Mercedes and BMW's but the level of respect is not up to par)

My suggestions.

Don't do it unless you have a parking area where there is surveillance or away from general public.

if you look in the search area also there are about 10 threads on this too
