Probably Buying an Evo IX

Greetings. I'm seriously thinking about getting an IX before they run dry. Before I run out and dump 30K on a vehicle, I'd like to get your thoughts on a few topics.

It should be mentioned that I won't actually be purchasing until Janurary of 08, which gives me some time to figure out all the details. I made the mistake of buying a car earlier this year without really thinking(as many of us do).

First and foremost, test driving? - The biggest mistake I made in buying my current car, is not test driving it over the weekend. It didnt take more than 4 hours for me to realize the color, features and (the car really), was not what I wanted. Unfortunately, the EVO IX's are so sparse now that I can't test drive one locally. I'm in Charlotte and most of the big dealers that carry a variety of IX's are in
Illinois & Cali. I'm up for the drive to pick one up but I would really like to drive one to see how they feel before taking a 2K mile trip. I'd be willing to pay good money to someone within 40 miles who would let me take their stock EVO for a spin (while they ride of course).

Secondly, Models - I'm not sure if the terms MR and GSR are interchangable but I'd like to have the 6-speed, HID's, boost guages & leather seats(assuming this doesnt slow me down more than two tenths in the 1/4). That being said, should I look for an MR or a GSR?

Lastly, Where to buy? - Autotrader yields South Coast Mitsubishi quite often. Do you have any firm suggestions as to where I should look in Janurary? I'll be looking for Silver!

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. I look forward to being an evo owner.

You think the evo IXs will still be at the dealership in January? I'd love to get one too but I think it would be close to the X coming out so it'd be hard.

I really doubt there will be any new 9 January of 2008. Good luck.

I agree, good luck finding a new one around then. You could probably get a used one fairly easy, but new will be much harder than they are now. Also, why drive up from Charlotte to Illinois or further? For around $500 you should be able to get the dealership to get one shipped to them from another place. When the new style Mustangs came out the local Ford dealership in Florida didn't have any GT's so I had to get one shipped from Michigan to Florida. They only charged me around $550. Good luck!

maybe you want the evo because you heard from somebody that it is a neat car, fast, "supercar" status, etc. if this is your case, better test drive it first since it may not be your cup of tea. it is only for purist who wants a "driver's" car and know about its history and appreciates it for what it is. I hate to see somebody posting after buying it and complains that it is too noisy, interior looks cheap, stiff ride, no sound deadening material, has only two airbags, no navigation, regular cd/radio, etc. maybe it is just me, even without a test drive I would have ordered one anyway which I did But did you hear them complain about the speed? No.

What do you drive now? What kind of cars have you owned? What do you expect/want? These are questions you should be asking yourself and others. Personally the Evo is car that drives like no other. If your looking for speed and handling this is your car. If you want any kind of amenities, look somewhere else and get ready to spend some $$$.

I don't think so either. With the new Evo X going to a different engine, I think people will ****** up the last gen of the 4g63. Even if you found a couple of IX's in January, it's likely that they won't have the specific configuration that you are looking for.

6 speed = MR
HIDs = MR or SSL
Leather seats = SSL (but the faux suede on all other Evos is really nice)
Gauge pack = MR (or aftermarket or OEM accessory)

(Not sure which SEs have these features.)

I'm not sure what dealers you're looking at in Illinois but I would look to Florida and even Ohio before Illinois. To my knowledge there are no more than a handful new IXs on dealer lots in IL.

honestly...your best bet would prolly be looking in auto-trader...the biggest problem I see is not the lack of iX...but your specific configuration...leather and silver...it sounds easier than it looks...but unfortunatley its really not...I had to fly to Ohio from Chicago...because they had the model that I was looking for...leather and silver...like yourself...there were few iX in Chicago...but non with leather...or the color that I wanted...If you can test drive a regular model...even an VIII as the iX will be slighly better...its a peppy car for being a 4 banger...lol...plus it doesn't take much to make those cars beath 90% of cars on the street...with you posting here I'm sure you know a bit about those cars...so I hope you don't expect too much out of them and be disappointed in the end...I don't think the MR is worth the money...just for a 6 speed tranny and few extras...the 5 speeds are supposedly stronger than the 6 speeds...ask around here...I'm sure many of us will point you in the right direction...go with the SSL package it really makes the interior feel quality and less cheap than the regular ones...

I appreciate all of your comments.

Im a bit concerned since most of you think there will not be any available. I suppose I could give on the color and potentially the leather. My favorite aspects of the car are it's power, boost, and styling. I really want one new and will be willing to pay premium. I plan on going wingless so maybe the rs is an option...

Someone asked where I'm located. I'm in charlotte and would pay 100 bus for a brief ride.

If you want an RS, I'd look now rather than later. Of all the IX models, it's going to be the hardest to find new. Back in May of this year I looked and couldn't more than a couple in the Midwest.
