i had same problem. But i still wish i had used 8. I was looking for used evo but price was around same with discounted new evo 9. Wish i have old 08 so i can mod hell of it and put c west body kit. I really like to put cwest bodykit but also i dont want to waste my 9 design.
anyways after reading here, i decided to mod. Nothing big(just pipes)
Planning to add 20g, jdm rear, and maybe vortex.
Hoping the price will go down when x come out(plz go down!). Going to iraq and will be back in 15months.
This is gamble for me. If 9 drops in price dramatically, I'll sell my 9 and get x but if not I'm keeping for rest of my life(i'm hoping 9 will be next to supras and rx7s)

The way I looked at it was anything I could think of breaking and being covered under warranty I'd rather replace with something other than OEM anyways. And I would rather have reputable shops work on it for things I can't do instead of the dealership. Go ahead and mod it if you want to unless you really can't afford to lose the warranty.

I knew the warranty was voided as soon as I drove off the lot.

1000 miles I had all the mods in my sig and never looked back.

Just mod it and enjoy it. The car has excellent potential as you already know.

If you bought a warranty on top of the factory one, you can refund it. They'll pro-rate it for the remaining time and give you the money back.

Should have I agree. Check the finances and see if you do mod it and it does break..just because most don't at certain power levels doesn't mean yours won't it happens...and if the finances are good mod away.

I say learn as much as you can before you do anything more than TBE, filter, flash. That way you can minimalize the possibility of breaking things, and likely be able to fix what you may break on your own.

Coming from DSM's its nowhere near the same cost to repair things on the Evo. So I've been cautious to do my normal thing. Since I did exactly what you wished you did. Bought a used 8, that had very tasteful bolt ons. However I know for a fact, my warranty is gone the second I take it to the dealer. So I've been taking it easy instead of jumping straight in with a bigger turbo etc. Even tho I could build a pretty mean evo with just my DSM leftovers.

I say take your time and get familiar before you go a modding. Knowledge will keep your repair bills down. And a careful tuning hand. The good news is, IX's will respond better to more basic mods. So you won't have to do as much, just pick well, and tune well.

Fantastic cars they are, you will love it. Warranty or not.

I really don't get your thought process here. You regret getting a IX with warranty because you don't want to lose your warranty, so you wish you got an VIII with no warranty instead?

I'm in the same boat as you in terms of wanting to mod but not wanting to lose warranty. GReddy Ti-C is going on this week and that's it until spring. Hopefully then I'll add downpipe/HFC, intake, and flash and I'll be good to go. If anything major breaks, I'll be able to go back to stock pretty easily. So don't worry about it.

I kept mine stock for a year - that gave any crap part plenty of time to crap out (oil pan seal), and from then on I pretty much tossed the warranty out the window.
