I get the whistle and I'm bone stock, hell I can hear my turbo pulling away from a toll booth going maybe 10 mph.

 

Pssh it's only tiny when compared to your monster 16g or 18g.

Very true. We recently went through an overview of almost every available turbo for the wrx/sti/evo and the difference between the WRX's tdo4 and the evo's td05 is nil. The turbos have very similar compressor surge limits and rev cap, but the tdo4 (RHF55) that the wrx's run crosses the peak efficiency at around 2500-3500 rpm whereas the evo's cross at about 3750-4500 rpm.

So get a bigger turbo. Or better yet, stop caring about silly noises.

 

He is talking about spool through the exhaust, not spool through the intake... anybody can hear it through the intake. Listen to the vids.

If that WRX has a TBE, he probably has engine management as well.

 

I have the Injen ic piping and intake whith a greddy bov (don't flame please it was on there when i bought the car) and you can hear the turbo alot.

 

Yeh, my friends Audi A4 1.8T with a R&D exhaust and a k04 is load as all hell at idle and from a roll it spools super load, sounds great but still slow... well not really
