Any thoughts on Octane Booster

I was looking at this stuff at Pepboys, but didn't buy it. The manual recommends 98 octane, thats why I looked at it. Does anyone have experience with this stuff?

Manual...the car?
91 octane or better should do.
Those octane boosters are waste of money, IMO.

The manual recommends 98 octane??? News to me.

I used those boosters when I had my turbo camaro. I noticed very little effect on knock readings. I wouldn't put too much weight in them.

Octane boosters are seriously a waste. This topic has been covered.

Most octane boosters are a waste of time and money. Basically they all consist of toulene (for the octane boost), ATF ("cleaning agent"), and some type of oil like Marvel's Mystery Oil for lubrication lol. Also think of it this way, if the can has a 98 octane rating just for that small amount, imagine how much that rating will drop when you mix it with 14 gallons of 91/93 octane. If you want a bigger jump in octane, go to a paint store and buy 5 gallons of straight toulene and put that in your tank, IIRC toulene is rated somewhere around 114 by itself.

Look in to Torco Unleaded Accelerator on google. It's a race fuel concentrate rather than a "booster".

20 gal 93 + 32 oz TORCO = 97

10 gal 93 + 32 oz TORCO = 104

5 gal 93 + 32 oz TORCO = 107

Dont use the octane boosters. They do more damage than good. Some chemical they use ruined my friends valves in his srt 4. If your looking for an octane booster look into toulene

Hmm, that Torco stuff is interesting. It seems to be an MMT concentrate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylc...se_Tricarbonyl) which is what originally replaced tetra-ethyl lead as the primary octane booster in gasoline.

If you want something to boost the effective octane of your engine, consider a water injection system. Distilled water is cheap after the initial investment.

Even better would be to spray alcohol in that water injection system. In other cars (mazda rally car), there are noticeable timing advance that you can run without any knock by only changing to a 1/2 & 1/2 denatured alcohol and distilled water.
