MR vs GSR 8
MR vs GSR 8
I always think about it, and I know there's threads of people wondering are the MR's worth all the " bells and whitles"
But I'm looking at it from what's different inside the motor such as....
- wastegate valves being changed from an oval shape to a circular shape
- wastegate holes being changed to improve low speed torque
- the pistons having a v-shaped groove to improve oil consumption and modification to cooling channel
- chrome nitride side rails on oil rings
- cam profile of intake cam
little stuff....
theres plenty more differences... but I see people argue about how the MR may or may NOT be worth the extra money cause they see well... sunroof, leather, sound, 6 speed and more, basically the stuff I don't give 2 ishgish's about....I don't think the internal "bells and whistles" are EVER brought into consideration.
but as far as allll this, after driving an MR and a regular gsr, I will have to finally come to the conclusion that the MR would ONLY be worth it if it had the suspension with a 5 speed and everything the GSR comes with also for a cheaper price. (no sunroof, no extra sound, no leather etc.)
anyone else agree? I just want to put these thought's to rest so I don't cringed everytime I see and MR and wonder how much they realllly paid for it.....
not bashing MR owners at alllllllll btw

like I said I never pay attention to that kind of stuff... I only like what will make the car performer better
yeah. i have a non-MR but i have the sunroof, sound system, leather seats and the HID headlights. i like mine better than MR's because i don't like the vortex generator look and i love the leather, sunroof, sound and subwoofer. good balance of sporty and luxury.
still have the wing too. if the MR's can get the SSL package, that's news to me.

o... lol but even still! from what I have listed.... theres so many OTHER differences that a lot of people don't know about .. know what I mean?
wow. you know what, nvm lol
over your heads, seriously
MR = worth more then people think.. THATS ALL!
ive read in other mr vs gsr threads that the mr isnt worth it for the few things u get.. all im saying is theres more to it. Basically to the NON MR OWNERS! the ones who DONT want 6 speed or that suspension crap.. would you rather have all these LITTLE additions on your gsr's?
I THOUGHT the mr had all that other crap.... changes my mind a bit.
but yes.. I WISH MY GSR HAD THESE ADDITIONS!

you got it all wrong, are you talking about USDM MR or JDM MR, I am sure you r talking about USDM. all the difference in the motor you listed don't apply to USDM MR. get your info right b4 you confused the others. I have a 05 MR, the only difference between MR and regular VIII (DON'T CALL IT GSR, WE DON'T HAVE IT IN US, FACTORY JUST LIST IT as Evo VIII) are 6 speed, aluminum roof, bilstein shox, and bbs wheels. The JDM MR has bigger oil cooler, thicker head gasket, better turbo, AYC of course and other jdm spec things. I read the Hyper Rev magazine in Japanese, yes I can read Japanese.

Where are you getting this info? The engines are identical across the board relative to the model cycle. Meaning, the MR has exactly the same engine as any other Evo of the same vintage.

When you compare the VIIIs, the standard and MR models do have slight differences like the BOV and it think a few other small things.
Now the IXs are a different story....they (standard IX & MR) are identical to each other with the exception of the susp, 6spd, roof.
When comparing the IXs, MR not worth it as much as when you comparing the VIIIs.
