Hey guys, just got acquainted with this website and the forums, I must say, are the biggest source of unbiased (relatively, this is an evo website
) information I've ever come across on the car. Well, to start things off, I've recently purchased a sunday driving evo IX MR/track day goer. I'm fairly new to ricer tuning, and I'm not really that knowledgeable on the limits and extent of product available from the after market websites.
I do understand that there are absolutely endless amounts of websites and shops around the nation that specialize in making (relatively) cheap cars go fast and smoke most of the Bavarian and Italian super cars being produced. I think I'm making a right move here in saying that this website has most (if not all) the information that I would need to make decisions for purchases, tunes, and miscellaneous questions. So based on that, I'll get started with my real questions.
I've been poruzzing the website, and I've found that alot of the members seem to fancy the Greddy TI exhaust system, and after a few looks at the internet, so do alot of other people. I've read the review on this website for it, and it seems like its the exhaust I'll be buying for the evo. If anyone can point me in the direction of a better exhaust system, or a better deal for a comparable exhaust, that would be excellent. Aside from an exhaust system, I'm planning on installing a BOV (not even remotely sure where to start) so if anyone can help with choosing or pointing me into the direction of a good BOV would be much appreciated. I've also been reading the Sparco evo's thread and I must say I'm very, very impressed with the carbon pieces that were installed on that car, I'm just not sure if I should be dropping 2k+ on carbon pieces when I could spend 1k for both a boot and a hood. (any arguments against this?)
Inside I'm planning on getting an A-Pillar gauge cluster for my oil pressure, the turbo monitor, and something else (I won't be putting meth injections or any NOS in the car, so I'm not sure what to use for my 3rd gauge). I'll be using the Blitz mirror gauges since they seem to be fairly reliable and easy to install (I'll be doing most of the installation myself). I was impressed with the APEX turbo timer LCD display, so I am going to probably buy that near first (unless I shouldn't, please give me a reason not to).
Eventually I'll be switching the seats around, but for now I'll be keeping my stock Sparco seats, and maybe install a stabilizing bar between the front two seats and get some Sparco harnesses (if I have any cash left over).
Let me know what you think about any of these topics, I'd greatly appreciate any feedback on these issues and look forward to hearing from you guys!

First off..
Don't install a BOV until you get a big turbo, if your desperate for the sound an intake kit will provide you the sound and make more power to boot with a tune.
Secondly,
Since your still researching what your going to do with the car why not look at some of the big tuning shops staged packages like from Buschur or AMS. Both of those are good valid steps into making the evo anywhere from track demon to drag strip destroyer.

Thank you for your input, but I don't plan on buying stage tunings for my evo, I feel it loses a sense of uniqueness, I like installing my parts since it allows me to be more familiar with the workings of the car. Aside from that, I also dont like the fact that anyone can go to aftermarket company XXX and get XXX installed as a kit, it seems very depersonalized and, well, boring really.
As per the BOV, what is wrong with getting one with the stock turbo? What is the advantage of getting a bigger one (aside from power obviously). Also, what air intake kit do you suggest and why?

ummmm, okay, I'm only answering this 'cuz I'm bored...
1) Please use the search button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to read up about every part you just mentioned.
2) Take a look at well-respected member's signatures on this forum and learn something about the right combination of parts.
3) You have an Evo IX - it comes with a great bov (DV) already - to go buy another one right away when your on pump gas boost levels makes about as much sense as upgrading to a carbon-fiber glove box as your first mod...
4) If you have to have the blow-off sound, just buy a cone filter with a MAF adapter - made by Buschur, AMS, Vibrant, and others. You won't need a different BOV.
5) Worry about what parts make good power - not about brand names. who cares if you have a GreddyTi catback; you'll get raped on the street by the guy who bought a 3" exhaust off Ebay and spent his extra $$$ on an mbc and tune... When's the last time you had somebody crawling under your car to see what brand your exhaust was?

Thank you for your input, but I don't plan on buying stage tunings for my evo, I feel it loses a sense of uniqueness, I like installing my parts since it allows me to be more familiar with the workings of the car. As for a kit being "depersonalized" I really can't see your point. A kit is simply a collection of parts either you assemble it yourself or someone pieces it for you to install either way.. its the same thing. If your really set on making your own kit I'd still recommend looking at the staged groups so you have some sense of the idea what your going to need in the future.
The other benefit by going with name brands or assembling with name brand mix of parts is you know exactly what is going to happen.
Thanks a bunch guys. I'll start doing some more research on my own and if I have any more specific part questions (quality wise/synchronized with other parts) i'll be sure to post either here or in the part review section.
And as per mudduck's response, I'm not really worried about going fast in a straight line, any kid can go out and spend a bunch of cash on a car to maximize his HP, I'm more concerned with going around corners and using the evo's renowned handling on a track, street racing is dumb, pointless, and only proves they spent more on their engine. (I play to buy from eBay almost regardless anyways, and money really isn't an issue, I just want another track toy for when I go putzing around).
