Newb wants a better 0-60

I'm a newb evo owner. Just got the 2006 MR and I love it. I want to improve my launch/0-60/acceleration. I've considered a different intake (heard that is not the way to go), reflashing my ECU, replacing the turboback exhaust... and so on. I can't do it all. Where should I start???

Go to a track and learn how to drive it AWD is beast of its own.
If you wan't to buy parts to help, I would start with motor mounts and suspension. More HP doesn't always mean faster. Get the most out of the engine stock, and then start modding it for power.

+1.

You could also get a flash done with a 2 step for a better/more consistent launch.

Thanks for the feedback. You've got a point as sometimes I launch great and sometimes not so much (a little clutch burn for example). Hopefully I'll get better, still a little more power might be fun.

Yeah, the flash seems pretty popular. I was thinking about the Cobb Tuning Accessport (I'm not far from Salt Lake where Cobb Tuning is). They claim gains of 12% hp with their selectable maps. And then there's Vishnu who claim gains of 100 hp with their reflash! Could it really be that good? They also claim a 0-60 of 3.8 with the reflash.

You have a stock 2 step, so you should be fine with launching stock, its just working the clutch. As far as I know my ECU is stock, I build 5psi boucing off the 5k limiter, I need to slip less also, driving FWD for years taught me to slip alot off the line. There's something called no lift or something that will let you hold boost between shifts that might help to, thats in an ECU flash.
Claims are claims, I'd do a search to see what people are actually using and what works for who. If you are close to COBB I would take your car there and have them tune it. Nothing beats a tune custom tailored for your car.

The standard 3" TBE + increasing boost + a good tune will net you ~50+ hp...There are countless threads on what to do in order to achieve your goals (as long as they are sub 1100 whp)...

What kind of motor mounts are suggested for evos? Are you getting better rubber bushings for the engine mounts or solid mounts?

Reflash that dude and pick up ~15-20 whp.

Then learn how to launch (start saving for a clutch).

Then once you have mastered launching buy parts.

The IX's are pretty fast in stock form with just a reflash of the ecu.

If you like we can help you with that remotely if you have a laptop and a tactrix cable.

Mellon will work with you each step of the way letting you know exactly what he is doing to your tune. (ie: pretty much a custom road tune remotely)

For further information see our site in my sig.
