Scared to switch

Ok so I'm looking to "switch" the switch is from an 02 Camaro SS to an Evo.
I know I've seen a few evo guys on camaro boards so some of you must have
experience. I dont want opinions only from camaro drivers I'm more interested
in the switch from v8,rwd,etc. so all sides are wanted. Seeing how its almost a
complete opposite setup, I'm worried about 3 months down the road I will be
disappointed. Some of you are going to say, Drive one then decide, things don't
grow on me quickly and I really don't want to spend the money on something I'll
regret. Right now I really just miss the sound of my turbo so I'm trying to get back
into that. Also I'm looking for a car with alot more handling and just funner to drive
in the country and around town.

I'm also worried about the 20-80 40-100 area acceleration

For me it was a no brainer.

My town is V8 heaven and if you don't drive a f-body or mustang you're a ricer.

I have driven vette's, mach 1's and vipers, and I can truly say that my Evo is more fun to drive than any of those.

I love driving RWD V8's. They are fun, but I way enjoyed my Evo more. Specially if you do mountain driving and such. I go both ways with the switch. sorry no help

its a tough call no doubt.

40-100 is no problem as long as you're in the right gear. low rpm rolls will give you an issue, you just don't have the grunt in the low rpms with a 2liter engine, its just not there. i've taken V8s from a 20 roll, but i wreck the clutch by slipping it heavily for boost and rpms. also, if your in mid-turn and your out of your power band - its a pain because sometimes shifting isn't an option - thats when lag sucks.

you really need to drive one for a good week to know if you're gonna regret coming from a V8. sorry i can't help more than that.

Its exactly opposite here, you wouldn't think so but if you own a mustang or fbody you are automatically a mullet wearing redneck. I don't really care on that side, if a cars fast, its fast. I really just need a change, the interior is getting old to look at and really I don't want to make just a 10 second car. I'd rather have a car that can actually somewhat handle its own power in the twisties. Another thing is I'm 6'2" give an inch or 2 and about 250. I feel that the camaro is at its size limit with me rofl, so I really cant go much smaller. Any bigger guys have a problem with them? I'd hate to have to go on a diet and put bricks on my head to fit into a car.

the evo is actually a pretty big car for me. i'm a little guy used to honda's so all the extra room for me in the evo throws me off a bit.

My last car was a 2004 Gto, I had exhaust, ported TB and a vortech supercharger on it, not a camaro, but same thing. the car made 498 rwhp and 471 rwtq. on 11 lbs of boost

The Evo isnt as fast or as nice inside as the gto, but i dont really care about having leather interior, and even though the Evo interior is like a rental car , besides the seats and steering wheel, I love it anyway!!

I also love having traction all the time!!! and it is way more fun to drive on a daily basis.. it stops 100X better than the gto to, etc..

I do miss the low end grunt of the gto sometimes and rwd, but I am very happy with my evo, and plan to keep it for a long time. I have all the basic bolt ons for it sitting in my room ready to be installed. Im sure I will like it even more after i get tuned!!

Well right now my DD is a 97 Volvo 850R. I'm debating wether or not to sell it and add more of a down payment. Volvo is pretty comfy but I am actually
tired of leather. Here it is either really hot or really cold and even with seat warmers its too cold in the winter and in the summer it is just to hot lol.
I am planning on using the evo as a DD

I just sold my Gt today and pick up an 06'evo, the only thing i will miss is the v8 rumble ( maybe someone can suggest an exhaust witha deep tone for the evo???) other than that though i loved the stang but this car is fun to drive in a completly different way/feel+ seems like mods r cheap.
like stated above beside the seats the inside is BASIC. if you cand and decide on the evo order the orbital kit(i think thats the name) it relocates the a/c knobs down one pocket and leave you with a double DIN head unit space so you can put in a nice touch screen navi/dvd palyer and make it feel a little nice inside

I'm into drag racing and my 06 MR can handle just about anything RWD that is able to be street driven at the track. LS1's and ZO6's are no match for the allwheek drive traction that the Evo has. To me that is the main difference, traction ; I have beat many a RWD car that has way more WHP than my Evo. If you like smokey burnouts(seen on TV) stick with the RWD platform. But it is very nice to haul around 4 adults in comfort and take a twisty road and stop ona dime in my Evo. I'm hooked for life and won't ever look back.

j/k, i think youd be impressed. its definately different in just about every aspect, but good in oh so many ways. I grew up in a musclecar family, I even at one time when i was 17 had a challenger 440, and currently have a 400ci out of a 65 GTO thats going to be built and put in a newer T/A, but damn do i love the Evo's...give em a shot...

What are your goals for the car? Your SS has more potential to go fast in a straight line and can be made more reliable too. EVO's do very well at playing "Jack of All Trades" if you are looking for a all around fun, nimble, high 11 low 12 second car the EVO is a great choice and hard to beat.

If you say longterm you want 9's in a street car or 140mph+ traps crazy stuff. Your camaro has more potential and would be cheaper, easier, and more reliable to get you there.

For all the AWD vs RWD debates on the street AWD all the way. For the non street racer we all know who wins at the strip RWD.

Good luck in your choice.
