who plays in the snow? I have a question
Evo in the snow is the most fun you can have with you clothes on...
Don't worry about the clutch, you have boost to break the tires loose.
And like everyone else say's get a good set of snows, I recommend Michelin
PA2's myself.

I live in Ohio as well (although NEO) and i have never loved driving in the snow until i got my 03 Evo. I have dedicated winter and summer wheels and tires as well as suspensions to swap on and off. I run the Blizzak ws-50s and they are terrific, but you must get snow tires. Like the other guys on here i also have 78K on my stock clutch so stop worrying about the stock clutch it is plenty strong, now if you are a newbie with stick that is another story. As evidenced by this thread the stock clutch can last just fine.
well Im definitely not a newbie to manual's at all, I've just read many horror stories that kind of scare me. And I'm in the process of finding a WW IX right now, and I'll probably just buschur Stage 2 and leave it at that. I dont plan on launching the car really since I'm not a quarter mile kind of driver, but I did do 8 autox events this year in my 07 GTI and plan on nearly the same with an EVO, however I just will need to be careful not to really launch the car but just start like a *****.
on the snow with the snow tires you can put your Evo sideways without any problems and you will not need to use clutch for that. Give it a gas turn the wheel and off it goes. I don't think you will ruin the clutch, clutch can take a little bit of abusment but if you want to drag race this thing, it will brake no matter what you do soner or later. AWD cars were not ment to be lunched at 7k RPMs. Snow drifting will be fun. I did it couple of times.
Mother nature set a 24 hour record for snow fall here two winters ago, towards spring. The stuff was on the wet side too. I wasn't playing, I was just getting to and from where I had to be and ventured onto many a street were no one had been through pushing snow with the front end like a plow. On Wintersport M3 tires I never was stuck. The only problem was that the wire mesh in the front bumper got pushed out by the snow.
If you can drive around in an all time record snow and that snow is about the consistency of wet concrete, and if you have no problems then your winter transportation problems are nonexistent. One the other hand, play can mean sliding and that can mean sliding into things with bad results. So, pick you play spots carefully.

I don't know off hand how much they where. they came with the car. I bought my evo off my brother in law. they are made in england I think. they are awesome tires and only slip if you really want them to. this will be their third winter and still have plenty to go. the evo is my DD I have only put 6K miles on it in a year.
STevo
6k miles huh. Not much of a dd. U just dont drive much. Since january i have put 30k on the evo. And 105k on my truck. I drive way too much. those snow tires are finish (from finland). They are used allot in canada. I thaught that u couldnt get them in the us without importing.
I really hope this fragile clutch rumor goes away. The people with bad clutches cant drive.
