Why is everyone being such a puss with this car? Hell yea take it in the snow; hell yea take it on some dirt. Did you buy an evo or a Kia?

It's really not that hard to drift the car in the snow and be easy on the clutch. When you launch at a stip, the tires don't spin so the clutch and drivetrain have to take all that load... but on snow, the tires will just give way... which is the point.

Oh, and I use Dunlop WinterSport M3's in the winter. They're great.

If your going to drift in the snow you shouldn't have to worry about the clutch as many have said just give it gas and she'll give! However, get some snow tires I recommend studless snow tires as you'll have the most fun! I personally run blizzaks though!

Only thing I'm worried about is blowing her up...I'm sure it's not as big a problem on the Evo, but my friend was snow drifting his 1g and blew it up since no oil was getting to the engine (high g load). Anything that prevents this on the Evo?

Since the tires aren't really getting any traction I would think it'd be pretty worry free. I just dont want to have to replace the clutch so soon from snow fun. Does anyone do this often/regularly/at all?
Youll never get enough traction in the snow to hurt the stock clutch. Properly driven it can handle a ton of power.

Why would there be more g's while flying around in the snow than there would be on a racetrack or Auto-X?

There's not. In the snow, you're sliding, very little g forces... just think about it logically.

Don't worry about the car. I bought my Evo for a RallyX car, and about the only time it comes out of the garage is to get abused in some farmer's field.

My technique at the start is to floor the throttle and let it bounce off the 5500 RPM rev limiter and dump the clutch at the flag. I've got probably over 100 launches on the stock clutch with no problems -- since you don't have nearly as much grip on dirt (or snow in your case) the wheels can spin and the clutch doesn't end up acting like a fuse when you launch the car on the street on sticky tires.

If you're worried about the engine, get an oil pressure gauge with a nice bright warning light, and if you trigger the light, quit doing donuts.

I haven't had one mechanical problem with my Evo. Here's a couple pics of the car in action:

Snow is the Best in my eyes... I had my Evo out the first weekend. The Clutch shouldn't be a problem, as many have said, and goog all-season or snow tires are definiately a plus if you want some traction, otherwise you will loose it in upper rpm's.

Here is my vid;

Good luck!

awd car will only make it worse? what are you talking about lol, slap snow tires on the car, and you're set. you cant even imagine how fun it is, this will be my 4th winter with evo short story, there was a blizard last year in chicago i went on the parking lot to test something out, it was so much snow when i did open the door snow was touching the bottom of the door and i did stop completely, release the clutch and the car starts to move again, went thru like a snow plow,

I dont think you can do that with FWD,RWD car can you?

I need to swap my wheels with snow tires pretty darn soon! and rallyart mudflaps. wish i had rack for my snowboard.

from previous winter,
