Can I Afford It....

From what I've heard, Evo's are pretty expensive to maintain.
I'm a noob when it comes to how much it costs, cause I've never had one.
I wanna be able to DRIVE the car, and not worry about the miles and upcoming problems. If not an EVO, anyone have any suggestions?

How much does it cost a year to maintain + insurance? Because, I can imagine the insurance premiums on this thing wow, AWD + Turbo says money to me.

Any other sports cars anyone would suggest that i could drive the CRAP out of, not ABUSE it but DRIVE it.

idk imo the insurance cost is only high on evos if u have a bad driving record, live in a bad area and are young. Ive heard one guy say he pays around 600 for 6 months. He had a good record or had the car under his parents. Anyway its worth it for the car, and i also wouldnt worry about the deductable. If its 500 dollars for the deductable w/e, who cars. Just drive safe and you woulnt have to pay for any deductable.

Maintinence cost is gonna vary depending on how you drive the "crap" out of your car. As for insurance just call your insurance company and get a quote. If you don't think you can afford an evo many people will suggest many things, but I personally would go with an rsx type s.

they don't really cost that much to maintain.....but when something goes wrong with them it usually does cost a bit more than any normal import. the one major thing is the clutch, sometimes people can put a lot of miles on it sometimes it goes out after a couple launches at the track.

insurance is pretty ridiculous on this car, but that also depends on how old you are and your driving record. my insurance was $375 a month at first and all I had was one ticket.....now its dropped to $215 a month cause my ticket fell off.

to maintain the car its just a matter of changing out all the fluids at the proper time, which you should be able to do yourself and not have a shop do, cause they charge out the a$$.

i would say other cars that you could "drive" would be an s2k, 350z, g35 coupe, or g37 coupe, mazdaspeed 6, mazdaspeed protege. just dont get a FWD cause they're retarded!

everyone is going to spend different amounts of money on maintenance, because some model years have some problems, and it also depends on how you drive it. if you drive it sensibly then you shouldnt have to worry about much. and as for insurance, it really depends on your record, where you live and what insurance company you have. but if you really want one, then go for it

As the phrase goes if you have to ask then you probably can't afford it.

Well, I am in college and funding my VIII. I bought it for 20k, and within the first 3 months I had to get a new clutch/flywheel (1300), rear brake pads (100) and a couple new tires (300). My insurance is 350/6 months, which is really nice at 21 years old. I probably need new front brake rotors soon, I'm at 40k miles now. Those go for around 250/per wheel + pads. It isn't a cheap car to maintain, but definately a fun car to drive. Make sure you have the funds to maintain it, or it will go downhill quick.

A good rule of thumb to go by is to purchase a car/vehicle that does not exceed your yearly gross income. For example, if you make $80,000 a year, don't buy a car that costs more than $80,000 out the door.

If you don't drive like an *** maintenance isn't too bad and if you've got a good driving record insurance isn't horrible either.

So far in the 11 months 13k miles I've owned my IX I've spent about $200 between oil/filter changes, drivetrain fluid change and a drop in filter. I've also just purchased a new set of tires to replace the stock advans for $330 (on sale usually they would be another $100 and that's for tires on the cheaper side) figuring another 80-100 to mount/balance the new tires. So, about $600-$1000 in maintenance for the year, not too bad IMO. Of course it will go up as brakes and other things need to be replaced, but for now I'm good. But now I also have tires that will last twice as long mileage wise, so I may need brakes in another year but won't need tires for another two years.
