Hello i just bought an evo IX mr edition on friday. I am new to this site and I dont know a ton about cars but i was wondering what mods you guys would recommend to do first to my car. Any suggestions would be great. I am looking for a few things to do to it over the winter. Thanks.

lol. your more than likely going to get a flaming from a lot of members. They easiest way is to just look at other people signatures with there mods listed. There are so many vendors on here all supporting the evo and there parts. you'll be getting this one is better than that one so its pretty much just your preference. All i can say is you get what you pay for so dont go buying cheap parts unless its from the for sale section which would be a good place to start for you to find some good deals on parts.

Drop in filter or Open Element
Turbo Back Exhaust ( TBE )
and a good tune is all you'll need if your just looking for a little more power if not let me know what your after and we can go through it. Up to you what you want to do really. You need to ask yourself what you plan on doing and what your goal is for horse or 1/4 times or track times w/e it is your into.

I'm not trying to flame you but 1st learn how to use the search function of the site and you should be able to answer almost all of your questions.

IMO you need to buy reputable parts with proven performance:

Intake w UICP
LICP
DP
TP
CBE
MBC
and most important a good tune.

That should be good to start out with, when increasing the HP on the Evo get ready to put in an uprated clutch. Exedy Twin HD tends to be one of the best choices although people would debate the crap out of that.

From here get used to the power and if your thirsty for more then look around and see what kin of power people ae putting down and what it takes to get there and mod away.

For an IX MR all you need to start out with is:
1.) Get some winter/all-season tires if you haven't already
2.) 3" exhaust with high-flow cat
3.) Tune with some form of boost control - preferably using the factory boost control, but you can also go with a manual boost controller (MBC)
4.) Get an alignment

There's a lot more that can be done, but those things will get you headed into the right direction without breaking the bank. Should give you a nice increase in power, and depending on how far off your factory alignment was, a slightly better handling car.

I bought it with all season tires but i probably wont drive it in the winter if i can help it since i have another car i can drive. I dont want it to see salt if i can help it.

Thanks for your input. I just didnt want to start off in the wrong direction. Ill probably start off with intake and exaust and than go from there. Just looking for the best bang for my buck right now.

Congratulations, you got yourself a very capable sports car. You received some good suggestion on modifications too. My best advise would be to get to know the car before you start modding. The Evo is very quick from the factory. I waited a year and 12k miles before I made any performance modifications, and I'm glad that I did.

I don't know anything about your automotive background. If your coming from a Corvette, Porsche, STI. etc; Mod away.

If this is the fastest car you've ever driven, take your time.

I would start with an HKS super-sequential and a full cold-air intake that replaces the stock rubber intake pipe....

Seriously though Id drive it stock until you dont need to ask these types of questions anymore. Not trying to be salty but thats the best bet you'll learn the most about whats right and wrong and make the best decisions.

I drove mine stock for about 1K miles- then went on the intake and new DV- then the exhaust. Never was able to feel the gaines of either really until I was re-tuned.

The parts suggested already are a good start.

But to really get the gains from those parts you need to get tuned.

If you have any questions let me know.

At least keep it stock through the winter. That'll give you time to get used to the car and it will also give you time to do some research on exactly what you want to do.

You're lucky in that you have an IX MR. Not a lot of mods needed when you do decide to mod. My '03 VIII needed a lot more help.

I have the same car with these mods so it really is going to come down to your tune. You should be around 315-340 whp and 300-350trq
