since u mentioned being in college, any performance car is outta the question unless ur making good cash. if u want an evo, it will cost you as much as any other performance car if u drive it like ur supposed to. if u just wanna putz around town then u might as well get a Diesel Jetta. 47mpg city/53mpg hwy-more room than evo + gets 10x better gas mileage

well i have a full ride so i dont have to pay for anything and i have a good paying job, i just want a quick car that has a little more room that i wont get bored of.

I dont think maintenance will be too much for me, i change my oil and transmission flid regularly on the Z...about every 3000 miles

I WOULD keep the Z but it just doesnt have enough room

BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Owning an Evo is risky. Some people are ok but most Evo owners develop certain side effects. Check out this thread on what happens to people when they have been over-exposed to Evo's. You have been warned.

Click here to see what happens to normal people after owning an Evo.

I have to admit, I'm on that page too......

Hey i can chime in here. I own both cars. Being in college the Z is much easier and cheaper to maintain. it handles great and its fast enough. But if a 1/4 mile king is what you want, then unless you want to dish out $$$... Being in college your better off with a muscle car domestic i would say, if thats the goal you want to achieve.

I wanted a car with a back seat that was more streetable than my Z (w/ no sound insulation/ half way stripped interior/ noisy act flywheel/ crap radio/ unsprung clutch) so i got the evo..because i knew the handling would still be there. Its a completely different car....though it will not take the place of my Z as a track car.
However i finished college and when i got the EVO i dropped 260 bucks on new brake pads, and 1000+ to replace the clutch...I know this will never end..but im okay with it...my Z in contrast i've had for years and tracked it...and not had to spend on maint. other than performance upgrades.

Id stick with the Z.

only if u abuse it. my stock clutch lasted 2yrs b4 it went. for the price of a new stock clutch installed at the dealer, i picked up a used Tilton twindisk AND a Quaife LSD. now i will not have driveline problems unless i launch it like a dsm...

I'm in the Exact same boat... Love my Z but I'm in school and have a good paying job. I want the nimbleness of the Z with the pep of my old WRX and love the evo's. Also either it's too small for me or I'm too big for it... another selling point is AWD... I want to go up to the Mt. and I can't cuz the Z won't make it 5 feet in an inch of snow... lemme know how things turno out... I just called my insurance company USAA on lunch. I'm 20 with perfect record and many discounts and I pay $88.00/mnth full coverage. and with everything the same just on an EVO it's $165.00/mnth BUT right now I have $24k financed with $500.00/mnth pymnts and getting an EVO which is around $18k would deffinitely make my wallet happy...GL also any info about your Z? and are you on my350? I have an 03 PPW track with 26,xxx miles and JWT pop and Greddy EVOII exhaust.

Sounds like a great idea!

Errr..."problems?"

1. Buschur et al run their racecars on stock gearboxes. Where is the problem?

2. Maintenance is what keeps a street-legal racecar running at its best. Where is the problem?

3. The clutch is designed to the the weak link in the drivetrain, as to protect the rest of the gear. Still, folks pull great ETs with stock clutches and there are many, many Evos with a multitude of miles on them. Where is the problem?

I replied to your Stage 1 thread. What are you scared of? Maintenance is a part of the owning any hyper-performance machine. As you purchased your car used, your clutch may go a little early. One would think that you were compensated for it by the used car discount.
