Ix Vs Mr
Ix Vs Mr
Does anyone wish that they would've went with an mr over the ix or rs models? or vice versa because its gettin close to buyin time and i cant decide if i want to spend more money on the mr or save it and upgrade the ix? im mainly troubled over the 5 vs 6 spd trans. any ideas? thanks everyone
My vote goes toward the SE... Many of the MR's options with the proven 5 speed, that can handle a road course temps better than the 6 speed.
Some of the SE's options that you get over the gsr are, HID's, aluminum roof, se wheels, se lip, and red stitching, plus a few other things.

Agree with you about the SE. I saved tons of money buying an SE with 700 miles on it. For the $ difference between it and the MR, I could get a set of coilovers better than the Bilstein shocks on the MR and I have the tougher 5-speed tranny. I think that it was the best decision I could make.

I think it really kinda depends on what you will use it for, or what you are going to do to it. I originally wanted a regular IX. I passed up 2 MR's simply because i thought i didnt want one. Then i got a killer deal on mine now and couldnt be happier. So, coming from an MR owner, im glad that i "settled" for an MR

yeah dont mess with the 6 speed unless your just going to mildly upgrade it. as you start making more and more power the thinner gears of the MR will make you kick yourself for not gettin the 5 speed. If its just going to be a mild street car get the MR because 6th gear would be awsome on the freeway, the 5 speeds short gears force you to drive slow if you care about getting good gas milage on the freeway.
I think piece of crap is a little uncalled for and harsh..... I mean it may not be AS STRONG as the 5 speed but it depend on what you're gonna do with the car. Just a daily driver and don't plan on having 500hp then it wouldn't matter on a daily basis. Just my opinion

Actually the option thing started with the 04 evos. To get hid's you needed to get the SSL package. The the 05 Evo VIII MR's came out with all the options and a 6 speed tranny. Then the 06 evo IX's came out. Since 04' you could get couple different options. GSR, and RS in 04. Then the GSR, RS, and MR in 05. The 06 had all of those plus the SE.
The 6speed tranny is actually an awesome transmission. It just wasn't meant for being beat on, which is funny cuz they got it in a performance car.
I have an MR SE, the tranny is not crap. It may not hold up to big horsepower or lots of roadracing. It sure is nice for a DD and taken care of from what I have read will hold up to the occasional track day. I guess it depends on what you plan to do with it.
