Exhaust & cats

OKay, I have been looking at different exhaust options and I wanted to know when you put on a header and a down pipe, with the test pipe does you car no longer have a cat? because I know the lancer has two originally but I thought the first one is in the exhaust manifold, and the second is where the test pipe replaces. SInce I have the test pipe on my car if I get the Header and down pipe will I no longer have a cat? and it is dangerous for me as the driver to be letting Carbon Monoxide out the back end of my car? What should I do?

People have done it, and thats what I plan on doing. So.. hopefully not too bad. Won't pass on emissions things or whatever oin Cali. The don;t have that here in Florida.

Header removes the first cat. Downpipe removes the ultra restrictive (I'll post a pic of the stock downpipe if you wanna see just how nasty it looks) stock version. Testpipe removes the second cat.

And if you're worried about your exhaust gasses, get a highflow cat instead of a testpipe.

Take a look at your stock exhaust manifold. Do you see the catalytic convertor? It's removed.

Surfer - Buschur Racing and RPW have 2.5" highflow cats. As for passing emissions, I wouldn't take the chance.

remember it is still illegal to modify your emissions systems at all in a new car in california. with the different header you will not pass the visual inspection on your smog. The high-flow cat while not illegal the act of replacing your cat it due to it not failing or being damaged beyond repair before the car is 5 years old. Good luck and I hope it goes well but it is a huge fine if you get caught and most shops wont due it cause it is even bigger fine on the shop (25 grand i think).

But hey i just get parts smog legal on the side, what would i know. hehhe
