Coilover question

Ok so I have a few buddy's who are buying what they say are adjustable coilovers for in the 100$ range. Now here I see the Tien's for $1200. I asked them if they were sure they were true coilovers and not just lowering springs. Their response was "ya".

Now granted these were for a mustang, a civic, and an eclipse. But still, can adjustable coilovers be purchased for the lancer for under $300? And what is the real advantage to buying a 1000+ $ set of coilovers? Will there be a huge difference in handling/ride comfort? These buddies also say their rides are not bad at all as far as comfort.
-thanks

either they made those $100 coilovers themselves with baseball bats or they are just too stupid to distinguish between lowering springs and coilovers...

You can get coilover sleeves, like Skunk 2s for about $300 or so. But if you want a true coilover, then yeah it's gonna cost more.

Yes.. You can get $100 coilovers tho its for civics! Hahah!! For the Lancers, the cheapest is $300 range i think.. Which is ground control and skunk2... And not a complete coilover system. And the Tein is a complete set.. Tho i dont know what makes up a complete set...

I think the biggest difference between sleeves and full kits is the fact that unless you replace the stock shocks, you're still using those with sleeves; whereas a full kit like the SS Damper kit has new shocks.

Ok then could someone answer another question for me, as far as the Damper kit goes, what exactly does that mean? Just that it has 16 adjustable ride settings? Like as far as how stiff/soft the shocks are?
thanks

on softest the ride is bouncy as hell...on hard setting it almost feels like you have no absorbtion at all....handling at soft is still a bit better than stock, but at hardest these things will amaze you.
