Beginners Read Me: New To Your Evo Or Looking For An Evo?
Thanks for all the information on the different models and everything. Ill make sure to refer to this before i go and ask things. One thing im wondering on is do most people swap their 6 speeds to a 5 speed. Most evos ive seen that were originally a 6 speed are converted to a 5 speed is there any reason for this?

I thought the gearing was better on the five speed as well?
Unless you really have a thing for overdrive, one overdrive gear is more than enough.

I'm looking into buying a new Evo for myself but I cant decide between the 8,9, or the new 10 MR's. I'm currently a college student living in Queens, NY and I might consider commuting with the car. Although this thread is VERY helpful, I have a few things I wanna consider before I get serious about my purchase and I was hoping someone could help me out and give me some words of wisdom as a veteran Evo owner.
1) This will be my first car and I want to do mainly performance upgrades (as would any other kid my age)
2) I would prefer to do most of the installation myself, mainly because I want to familiarize myself with my car and cars in general, due to the fact that I've been a car fanatic since I was a kid, but I was never fortunate enough to have the opportunity to understand what "goes on under the hood". Plus I want the satisfaction of knowing that I don't have to rely on someone else to get the job done right.
3) I've found a few models which have been modified, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be a good idea to buy one, right?
I could possibly be leaving some things out that I want to touch up on, but this is all that comes to mind. So if anyone could direct me in the right way, it would be greatly appreciated.
