Beginners Read Me: New To Your Evo Or Looking For An Evo?
Differences between VIII and IX...compression #s!
Any responsible buyer will probably run a compression test before buying an Evo, but if you don't do some digging you might be passing on a great car because of misguided information.
The stock compression on a IX is much lower than that of an VIII.
Standard on VIII = 163
Standard on IX = 145
Minimum on VIII = 138
Minimum on IX = 92 (that's right, 92!)
How do I know this, I ran a compression test today and was disappointed with 140-150-150-140 on my IX....until I did some research. So now you guys know, if you're in the market for a IX don't expect to see 160s and 170+. Don't pass up a motor because you thought 'it had low compression scores'.
Do however, make sure the tolerences are within 14PSI. That goes unchanged for both VIII and IX.
