Reading a bar boost gauge

i was wondering if some tech dude could give me the layman terms of how to relate a bar type gauge to a "regular" boost gauge measured in psi. i was having a hard time trying to put in words for a search that would actually help me lol.

correct me if im wrong but the bar is the metric way of measuring boost while the psi is the standard version of measuring boost.

but if im right i think that it would of been better for mitsubishi to put a standard boost gauge in instead of a metric for the us vehicles since i assume that most if not all the customers in the us use the standard measuring system. most likely was a cost issue that had them leave those gauges in the car.

btw i have my flame suit on so i am ready

All evos come from the same factory in Japan. It would be more time consuming and would make mistakes if they had two types of boost gauges.

thanx for the replies fellas i guess it would just be easier to get a standard gauge instead of running into a wall trying to convert a measurement

The stock boost gauge reads Kg/cm, which is slightly lower than Bar.

1 Kg/cm = .98 Bar = 14.22 PSI

Here's a convenient calculator:

1 Bar happens to be roughly the amount of pressure the earth's atmosphere has at sea level or 14.69PSI. So basically when your shoving 1 BAR of boost into the motor your putting 2 atmosphere's worth of air, more importantly oxygen into the combustion chamber (depending on volumetric efficiency).

PSI is the cats meow! Now for wrenches, metric is easier. "What this 8 is too small? Oh Ill grab the 9 then". None of those silly fractions, pfft, who needs fractions?

(Evo is my first car to use metrics!)
