What year/s? If its the X or the '08 STi, I'd get the STi in a heartbeat, but I'm a sucker for hatchback rally cars... Otherwise, between the two, you want the Evo, hands down, you need no more research.

well like mentioned above you can do a search on why the evo is better and you will find many threads with some good information. you can learn a lot with the search feature.

I wouldnt buy a X or a 08STI if they were 20k... thats how disgusting looking i think they are. But it would be a 8/9 or a 05/06 sti..

is the evo twin? and would it still be better if i only wanted to do bolt ons.. like a turboback and intake..

i know i probably could find this info, but i would rather hear it fromy you guys..

Alright, you're definitely entitled to your opinion, esp. if you haven't seen them in person (I hated 'em both, now I think they're both beautiful).

The Evo is not twin, its a single 16g turbo (which, is twin scroll, but the car isn't twin turbo) inline 4.

If you want to mod, no matter what mods, the Evo is better, actually, I think a lot of people would argue on here that it is the BEST (of any car to mod) and I would agree. I spent what, like 1500 on mine and gained 70 whp? Find me another car that can do that as easily/cheaply as the Evo did.

Between an 8/9 or an 05/06 STi as your ONLY choices, I'd go for an '06 IX first, then all the way down to an '03 VIII before I'd even look at the STi. They're nice and all, but just not my cup-of-tea.

And don't worry about finding it, as much as people will say search, there will be those of us who don't care or have too much free time at work And... who are just as lazy as you.

My choices

06 Evo IX (any trim)
08 Subaru STI (I havent driven this car yet but I like hatchbacks and it didnt get slower)
07 Subaru STI (Longer Gears but needs to be tuned right away)
09 Evo X (I havent driven this car yet, but slower than the outgoing model? WHY?)
06 Subaru STI (Short Gears, but 2 yrs newer than the VIII's that your going to find)
05 Evo VIII

Getting older than an 05 your choice should be based more on condition / mileage / price. The Evo responds better to bolt-ons than the Subaru does and generally will be the faster car with similar mods.

Or find a cheap 03 and spend that extra 15k you saved and build it until the ***** fall off.

If you are going to make a lot of horsepower people suggest avoiding the 6-speed/ MR trim and you will eventually need an aftermarket clutch. Find a good tuner and good luck.

I was in the same boat as you.... I Had STi in the front of my mind though for about 3 years and Evo in the back.... Came down to it and Im getting the evo.

Id say go with whichever you like better. Its going to be your car, So whichever will make you the happiest seems like the better choice. Its not so much about which is better, is which will fit you better!

not to turn this into a debate but there are other cars that respond very well to mods. take for ex. many people have done a h/c combo on their ls1 cars and have seen gains up to 100 whp and that would be at $1500 plus a little extra for a good dyno tune. but yes evos are vey good cars to mod and they are even greater when it comes to road courses since they can go left and right much easier than american muscle cars
