Mashing...

Whats considered "mashing" on a car?

My Evo isnt my daily driver, but whenever I do drive it, I cant help but WOT (taking it up to near or at redline). Of course I warm up the car and the oil, and cool it down after every run, but am I decreasing the life of my car? (LOL Minus the tires and what not, I know those wear down for sure.) I want my Evo to last me a LONG long time. Thanks in advance.

Whoops one quicky, at what oil temperature is it good to WOT? I heard 180 degrees fahrenheit.. But the car never really gets that hot unless its a hot day. Thanks again!

Never heard mashing. Maybe it's something like ragging or beating which is just abusing the car.

The way I see it.. the engine was built to rev - and the associated components built to handle a smooth application of torque (so we hope). I don't see anything wrong with hard accelerations as long as you're not slamming gears, popping clutches, or doing anything else abusive.

Shift smooth and let the clutch out easy and you should be fine. I have never broken anything driving like that. Mind you I don't have an evo (my next car) but hopefully they aren't made of glass...

Just lay off the 2-step launching, try not to drive like an idiot, be sure to hit your grears and dont be abusive with the stick. It should be fine to rev it to just before redline, just be sure your fluids are changed regularly. (ie: more often than the mitsubishi schedule)

Surely Mitsubishi wouldn't put the rev-limiter above the point of causing engine damage. Most manufacturers "tune" and "rev-limit" consertavely in an effort to provide the best balance of performance and reliability.
