The reason I mention this is because there are indeed a lot of cars that can drop good time just by taking some things out, raising boost... or increasing skill level.

I fear practicing in an EVO could get expensive (clutch etc etc etc)... unless auto x and road courses really dont hurt the car that much...

I am a very good driver with very little track time... I'd like to improve that. On the street, daily driving... poor weather... messing around I am on top but where it counts I am sure I can get better.
Bro,not be be taken the wrong way but seeing that you owned an SRT4 would explain the post above in BOLD

+1

no matter what kind of racing (autoX, road course, drag) until you hit the track for quite a bit or get some professional advise, most people really aren't that good.
I have seen people who think they are the **** at driving and they look like a fool on the track.

As for the wear and tear of clutches etc. for practicing... "you have to pay to play". Its not a cheap sport.

If you've got some fat on your body, go out and run everyday. Before you know it you'll lose 30 lbs., which means 30 lbs lighter car plus a healthier driver

if you want a louder but stock exhaust, open up that flapper in the stock muffler. there is an article on it somewhere on evoM. remove clutch line strictor. mbc to turn up the boost a little. learn how to do some porting. port out your exhaust manifold and o2 housing. great gains from that.

^^^ A member here recently had his 2.3L stroker Evo stolen. I'd say get a lowjack and never look back.

Remove some of those silly stock brackets in the engine compartment that do nothing but hold clips keeping wires routed. Replace with zip tie, mabye a wire-tucking job. Clean the engine bay, polish the metal, and mabye paint your valve cover. Cost - about 5 bucks in paint and a 5 bucks in zip ties, unless you already have these items. Saves weight and looks good.

Autozone bulbs (cheap as sin) replace your stock interior lighting to match.

Make your own MBC for like 6 dollars at any hardware store, (its east just good how to make one). Or make your own 2 stage EBC for about 40 dollars with a solenoid from the internet and parts from radioshack.

Wash/Clay/Wax your car, inscrease speed+mpg and looks nice!

Re-upholster your headliner for like 10 dollars?
Paint panels to match.

Build that foglight mod in the how-to's, it's alot of soldering, but it works.

Build a vaccuum moulder for abs plastics (instructables.com) then use it and a block of foam, some acetone, and scrap plastic, to make your own gauge pod wherever you want it. (or whatever else out of abs plastic)

Thats all I got right now, Sure you already know of the common ones like painting lights, removing pills, and whatnot.

easy free mods = remove spare + jack. any extra audio equipment. any junk in your trunk.either take your stock catalitic converter to a muffeler shop and and have him make it a test pipe, have a test pipe made or just punch it out your self and have to pay for it later. and mod the restrictor in the stock muffeler. actuley your best bet is just to search thru the Evo how tos/ installations there is a ton of great free or close to it mods in there.
