What are the best cheapy modifications?

I was wondering what the best "cheapy" mods where for the EVO VIII. When I say cheapy I mean free mods, deletes... or really cheap things that make a world of difference in appearence, functionality or whatever...

Be a better driver. Chances are, you're nowhere near being Rhys Millen or Tsuchiya in an Evo, so you've got a lot of work you can still do on that end.

Paint the chrome parts of your headlights and taillights black. It's a DIY that will involve time, patience and a tiny bit of money for the paint, but it'll look nice.

Driver mod........ With a good driver you can drop as much as .5 seconds in the 1/4 mile.....and on a road course you can drop alot more than that, and it is FREE.

Practice and weight reduction are both basically free

driving skill can make or break a good race like turbodan mentioned
obviously weight is a great enemy of racing too

+1 on weight reduction.

I've removed rear seats, spare tire, jack, tool before. About 40 lbs? It was a bit noisier inside cabin, and it felt a little quicker, but that could be just a placebo effect.

+1. Nothings cheap on these cars. But i'd have to agree with the cheapest mods listed (TBE, MBC, Tune). Cheap in the grand scheme of things, and will make a semi-noticeable difference. Good luck

That reminds me of some online article where they took a Nissan (either Altima or Sentra) that ran 16s stock and they kept stripping it until it did 14s... but it lost QUITE a bit of weight at that point. (The guys who have read this article know what I mean :P ).

weight reduction, remove several pills in the evo's boost lines, and clutch line. get MBC, wastegate actuator, K&N filter, GUT CAT, TUNE. race gas.

should be good for low 12's if you can drive good.

You all speak of practice, do you mean 1/4 tracks? auto x? road course? I have heard some good "you don't need it so take it out of your car" stuff like the jacks and what not. I think it'd be cool to make up a sticky of free stuff... or close to. The reason I mention this is because there are indeed a lot of cars that can drop good time just by taking some things out, raising boost... or increasing skill level.

I fear practicing in an EVO could get expensive (clutch etc etc etc)... unless auto x and road courses really dont hurt the car that much...

I am a very good driver with very little track time... I'd like to improve that. On the street, daily driving... poor weather... messing around I am on top but where it counts I am sure I can get better.
