The transmissions don't really fail themselves - most of the time these horror stories are driver errors but who wants to admit they f***ed up. So we hear how weak the transmissions are and how weak the tc are and then just like fairy tales they get carried on and on and each time the fish gets bigger and bigger.

The 6 speed isn't weaker the gear sizes are all basically the same - 4th gear I know is slimmer and doesn't hold up as well as the 5 speeds 4th which is a little beefier. So the MR trans can have a tendency to eventually fail on you but not because its "weak" just because people beat the **** out of them and expect nothing to happen.

Daily driving your car the transmission wont fail on you - the transmissions are stout and can hold a lot of abuse but they aren't going to hold up forever to constant abuse and good ole fashion daily non-stop thrashings.

You have nothing to worry about.......

Yeah, thats what I found out after a few road trips. No way of going 80+ without guzzing gas. I don't care anymore, I either just suck it up at the pump or slow down.

Mitsubishi won't give you a brand new transmission under warranty. Sorry.

My friends get like 15 MPG daily driving. I get between 20-22 MPG. Given that is a lot of highway time and I pretty much always cruise in top gear around town.
