tranny
There have been a few 6 speed to 5 speed swaps, but don't expect it to be cheap or Mitsu sponsored. Why do you want to go to the 5 speed anyway? I'd love to have an extra gear sometimes.
my tranny is fine...my evo is stock and i was just wondering about this because i always read about MR's trannys going out....and i was just thinking if it happened to me if it would be possible to do a swap and not have to pay anything

I've always thought of doing the opposite. Going from 5 to 6. I don't think it would be cheap to do do either way. Probably best just to stick with whats in it.
haha! I thought of the exact same a few months after I got my car. I didn't like crusing on the highway at 3.5k-4k, but after a few roadtrips I didn't care anymore. To get good MPG, I have to slow down to 65-70 MPH, but that's probably for the better right?
yea i like the 6 speed dont get me wrong..mine shifts like butter..and i try not to absue it any by launching and what not....just seeing if going to a 5 was possible if i decided to take the car into another direction besides a daily driver...
the 6spd is a weaker tranny and cant hold up to what the 5spd can...from my understanding both the trannies are the same exact size except they jam an extra gear into the 6 which makes it more vulnerable to going out especially with the more hp you put into it...

Plenty of misinformation and exaggerated stories regarding the MR's tranny floating around. Your tranny will be fine, stop worrying about it. Just don't drive like an idiot and it will handle what you throw at it.
