There have been a few 6 speed to 5 speed swaps, but don't expect it to be cheap or Mitsu sponsored. Why do you want to go to the 5 speed anyway? I'd love to have an extra gear sometimes.

I like having a 5-speed, but after driving an STi for a few months, that 6th gear is nice for daily driving....didnt do him much on the highway though....bwahahaha

I've always thought of doing the opposite. Going from 5 to 6. I don't think it would be cheap to do do either way. Probably best just to stick with whats in it.

haha! I thought of the exact same a few months after I got my car. I didn't like crusing on the highway at 3.5k-4k, but after a few roadtrips I didn't care anymore. To get good MPG, I have to slow down to 65-70 MPH, but that's probably for the better right?

Guess what... The five speeds aren't a picnic either. Mine is on the verge of blowing to pieces.

they wont give you the warranty if you swap because its not a stock part for the MR even if it were to go...they would just warranty you another 6spd tranny

the 6spd is a weaker tranny and cant hold up to what the 5spd can...from my understanding both the trannies are the same exact size except they jam an extra gear into the 6 which makes it more vulnerable to going out especially with the more hp you put into it...

Plenty of misinformation and exaggerated stories regarding the MR's tranny floating around. Your tranny will be fine, stop worrying about it. Just don't drive like an idiot and it will handle what you throw at it.

The swap is relatively inexpensive. You just need the trans (if warranteed) and about 250$ worth of parts to do the swap.
