Help, Last Resort
My evo IX has had a problem with what feels like boost cut, Lets say 2nd gear 2500 RPM and I step on it, it pulls to about 45-5000 and just jerks Violently. Then if you upshift it feels like the turbo is struggling to pull, but it doesn't pull as hard as it should.I've brought it to Mitsubishi like 4 times. There was a engine light, vacuum problem, they replaced the EGR. I was picking it up for the "final time" and as soon as I left the lot it did it again. At least 3 of their technicians test drove it, and they "don't feel anything wrong". I'm going crazy. They are basically telling me I'm lieing. They keep saying we are trying to work with you, with no help for me. Now they are trying to tell me its the clutch. The car has 7400 miles on it, and the clutch feels fine. I thought it was a boost leak or vacuum problem and it was. Now, thats supposedly fixed, i don't know what else it could be.
Are you the original owner? Has the car ever been modified? EvoM shouldn't be your last resort. Not first but not last either, people are usually pretty willing to help as long as you have made an effort and have searched the forums. I know you did the first, how about the second? Edit: Since you say it feels like boost cut, do you have a boost guage?

The car is stock now.I had a intake on there but its stock again now for Mitsubishi. And i don't see how the intake would matter so it's irrelevant. I don't have a boost gauge. I think i might call Mitsubishi and complain.

Did you put the two plastic pop rivets back into the front of the air intake? Edit: and did this problem ever occur before you put the stock intake back on?

The car was never flashed. Stock Ecu untouched. Pop rivets? The problem happened when I had the after market intake on, yea. But, it was a vacuum problem, thats what the engine light was on for. They "fixed" that. I don't know what plastic rivets you are talking about. The car is at Mitsu right now, so I can't drive it around to see if the engine light comes back on. They said the test road it with the computer and the computer read fine. They gave me some line about my clutch slipping, but theres no way that would cause what I'm feeling.

Damn, I thought I had it. If you leave out the pop rivets on the front of the air intake the intake will suck up against the hood under boost and cause the symptom you are describing. Since you had the same exact problem with the aftermarket intake then I guess not. Keep us posted if Mitsu figures it out. I guess that is one nice thing about being stock, you can take it to the dealership.
Yea, you would think that its good to be able to bring it back. This is the only dealership I trusted. I have to drive 30 miles one way to go there. So 60+ mile round trip a few times and you wish you just went all out. They scare you with all that warranty voided crap but, its harder then they make it seem. I would have left the after market intake on but I took it off to see if that affected it. But, yea I am going to mitsu tomorrow and I am going to test drive the car WITH a mitsu tech in the car so I can show these idiots what is going on. So I can show them it's NOT the clutch.
You are going to need a boost gauge to further diagnose,I was having some weird problems at higher rpms and my boost gauge was reading 22psi and afr was pretty good, but the car felt slow so I change to a different boost gauge and was only getting about 16 psi, went to a mbc and solved the problem
