I by far am not saying you are wrong, in some conditions I guess it is possible for the MR to get worse MPG on the highway. The odd thing though is the MR has taller gears thus staying in closed loop at higher speeds than the 5-speed. So I guess it all boils down to extra load from the taller gears at slower highway speeds. I would be willing to bet the MR gets better MPG in the 70-75MPH zone.

Good point, I agree, window sticker on the 6 speeds claimed one less mpg than the 5 speeds. With my 06 MR I did get 26 mpg on hwy doing 75 mph 85% of the time, and plus 5 mph the other 15%. I'm loving the 6 sp, that and the suspension were the major reasons I went with it. When it's time to change out the suspension, I'll check out what others here have used.

I have owned both evo 8 5speed and now the MR ! Too bad the first one was totaled but i love the MR ! I'm not looking to make extreme amounts of HP and i drive her everyday! Simple mods and you'll be pleasently satisfied...

I already explained why I think it would. Your closed loop AFR are leaner than your open loop AFR. the 5 speed will go into open loop at a lower speed than the 6 speed. Thus at 60-65MPH both cars are in closed loop, but with the extra load associated with the taller gears the 6 speed will get less MPG. However around the 70-75MPH mark the 5 speed will be in open loop while the 6speed is in closed loop still. What do you think would get you better gas milage 14.7:1 AFR or 12:1 AFR?

If you can get a great deal on the MR then get that. But its not worth the extra $$$ for it from the 9 IMHO

I would go with an MR or SE. I just happened to buy the last SE on the lot. At the time I didn't even know what the SE was but after the salesguy explained it to me, I was glad I went for that one over a base Evo. Well I didn't have a choice since there weren't any base ones left, just an SE and an MR and I wasn't gonna pay 43K for the MR. They made me a better deal on the SE and I'm glad I got it over anything else.

I chose my 5 speed because at the shop where I get my parts (ATX Motorsports) They have a lot of people coming in with 6 speed tranny problems, a couple are converting to 5 speed.

so what rpm would the 5 speed be in 5th gear and like 80 to 80, i wouldnt want something that is going to be on the rev limiter or close, i only plan on putting a FMIC with pipes, intake, catback, boost controler, IX bov, and a boost gauge. witch would be best, the 6 speed or the 5. but like i said, i dont want to be in 5th gear at 80 to 85 at 5000 rpm.

If your not going to go over 400whp, get a MR, if your going to build it and make it a monster, get a GSR.

With the mods you listed, i would go with a MR. In either model your not going to be a 5000 rpms at 80mph, maybe 3500? IF that. I wouldnt go with a 8, hard to find one with low miles. and also the 9 is just better all around, dont feel like going into details, but i will. Bigger hotside. MIVEC, better looking front end.
