Which Evo9 to buy GSR OR MR??? AND Y
I would buy whichever is in better condition. You don't want to buy someone elses problem.Just make to to find out as much info as you can about whatever car it is you are looking at before you buy it.
+1 but also from what i have come to know if u are going to be running more than 450-500 whp go with the GSR because the 5speed is a little stronger but if you're not going to go too crazy go with the MR because its 6speed will on the highway and it has better gear ratios than the 5speed, it also has a better suspension and very nice/sexy BBS wheels
. btw i have a MR and i am loving it and would not trade it for any other model but thats just me

GG to bad its been in the shop for about 4days
had the problem with the loose sound at ideal timing belt or pulley.......? but i went in to get my back pack out of my car and it was on the lift surrounded by about 5 other evos hahaha figures i only see about 2 evos in plano then walk in there and there are about 50 ha
I have the MR and love it, however I would look into getting the IX or the RS (There was no usdm "gsr" thats only the X's). Reasoning: The 5 speed is stronger, contrary to what people say, the 5 speed gets better gas mileage also, yes it's true, look up the cars factory specs. The 6th gear really isnt that much of an overdrive because cruising at around 80 I am still in the 5000 rpm range (plus or minus 500). Also price wise the IX is a better deal. You can add the brake air guides/vortex gen and most people change to coilovers anyway so the blisteins are pointless mabye, it would come out cheaper for the same car with your personal choice in parts with a 5 speed and without the MR logo.
If you can drive both and see what feels better to you. The MR will get better gas milage on the highway, but I have been told that the 4th gear is to small and the sinkro will start to make noise when you begin to make more power. Good luck

Go with the GSR! The 6-Speed has been giving people some problems per TRE. I have the 5 speed and love it, plus with the money you save on going with a GSR you could spend on mods!!
IMO get the gsr cheaper the tranny is stronger suspension wise most ppl do go to coil overs and the gsr actually gets better gas mileage like someone said look up the factory specs i have an 8 5spd i love it but its a piece keeps breaking down on me like once a month so make sure you know the cars history
Its a toss up. It really just depends on you. If you want the extra gear, go with the MR, but if you plan to take it over 450 hp, i wouldnt advise getting the MR.
What i would choose... the MR. cuz of the logo =p

First of all, go drive both and make up your own mind.
I have a MR and love it. I found the "gsr" or base model had a bouncy ride. Also, IMO the 6-speed failing is not mainly due to the amount of power..... it is the way it is driven. If you are going to road race then 100% get the 5-speed. The problem is heat and 4th gear. You will find people that road race will put on a trans cooler, switch to a 5-speed, or both.
If I had planned to buy different wheels, lower it, and not spend so much time on the highway I probably wouldn't have gotten the MR.

When they where new, the added cost of the MR wasn't justafiable IMO. Now that they are used cars, the playing field is a little better and prices of souldn't be that far apart. If you going make it a track ***** I wouldn't get the MR because of the 6 speed durability issue. I would look for base IX/SE non MR (best of both worlds).
I got the IX SE all the same features (less the bilstein shocks, vortex generator, and 6 speed) for less money. I got a set of bilstein's with swift springs less than 10k on them for 410.00 shipped. I've also seen that the 6 speed gets 24mpg hwy while the gsr gets 25mpg (per mitsu's gas rating on sales sticker). no MR badge though
