best platform to modify??
I know the 4g63 with tuning is an amazing engine to modify, but is it the best? I've been looking a lot at supra's and specs on them, etc. (Just cause I'm curious) It seems like the power you can get out of 2k worth of mods is ridiculous. Some people are pulling 450rwhp out of BPU supra's. This is all kind of pointless, but at any point is there any advantages the 4g63 has over rival engines? (2jz, rb26)

Those BPU Supras still run the quarter mile about the same time as Stage 1 Evos. This is because of weight difference, power band, and traction. Our family used to have a 425 BHP Chrysler 300C SRT8. My Evo had more power 0-80MPH After that, the Chrysler's displacement took its toll on me. The Chrysler weights almost 1,000 lbs more than I do!
It's not all about power. I don't think the 4G63 is the BEST engine out there, but certainly one of them.

The supra is just silly, if a nice supra didn't still cost as much for an 06 IX I would have bought one of them instead.
They still cost a fair fortune to upgrade but the difference is the range of HP you are able to get out of the stock internals, so they can be fast for cheap (ive heard them being rated to 1000hp or so)

In my opinion it depends. How do you want to modify the engine? Do you want it for drag or roadcourse? Yes, the 2JZ is probably one of the easiest engines to get power out of, but they hardly ever run the times their HP #'s would predict. Not to mention their cast block is crazy heavy. I've owned a MKIV TT and they are a blast to drive albeit overpriced, but they really can't handle. Reguardless I'm going to have to say the LS1 is my favorite (or any ls series motor). They have awesome stock HP and are relatively easy to get more power. Also the aluminum block saves a ridiculous amount of weight. If I had the time I would by an FD and drop one in.
I love the 2JZ platform, and if I sell my Evo I'm looking to buy either an SC300, IS300 or LS2 GTO to build up and turbo. That will hold me over until my wife and I are done with Engineering and Nursing school and then I'm shooting for a GTR. That being said, supra's have been in my opinion way overpriced and at times over rated a bit. I've seen 14-15 year old examples with over 100K miles on them going for $30K+. That's ridiculous to me when KBB is valuing them at half that. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Around $1000 in mods and tuning got me a 12.3 @113 in the Evo early last year. I watched a friend with considerable drag experience dump $15K into his slick equipped MKIV and pull an 11.8@ at around 121 MPH. The trap speed tells the real story, but for the price, it wasn't impressive. That's just my opinion so take it for what it's worth. I think these 2 engines though, in the import community are the best we have in the US.

Yes. I am a 3200 lbs, AWD, turbo charged beast. I really need to catch up with my Honda S2k friend
