EVO 8 no rev counter

Help anyone
I got an evo 8 which has no rev counter working but all the other dials work including the speedo.
I have tried another set of clocks and still the same problem, have been told it is the speed sensor would this be correct?

It could be a million things. First we need to understand what you are asking.

check the back of the display, if they tap the tach wire from there it must be broken.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but if speed sensor is *kaput then speedo would not work. Not sure where rpm signal comes from.

Yes I am saying the tachometer needle does not move and have checked the wire for continuity back to the ECM and all good so no break.
