What does it take to get an extremely reliable 400 AWHP?
Just my two cents....
You can't beat FP turbo's. They spool quick, look good, and are HIGH quality items. I have a FP3150 (they only made a few of these, so don't worry if you've never heard of it, haha) on my 2g Talon and I have 24PSI by 3900RPM! And the thing pulls like a freight train.
If you're going to upgrade your turbo, research, research, research! I can' tell you how much it sux to swap a turbo to only be dissapointed by it and have to sell it to find your new one.
Good luck!

How much lag can I expect on a 30R? I wish I could go for a ride in one so I can see what its like. The AMS website says spool "3200 - 3800"
I have no CAT, so that should help right?
I am just going to be so pissed if the car spools up super slow. Most of the time on the highway when i'm driving on 94 I dont even shift down to 5th or 4th to pass anyone.
There is an a$$hole with a vette at my work and he always likes to mess with me. I figure if I have 400awhp I can bust him pretty hard.
I just hate V8s so much they make me so mad. -

What dyno do you want to make 400awhp on? If you want it on a dyno jet get the green, if on a mustang get the gt30. if you are anything like me you will get the green and be upset with it after a few months and go bigger. I am looking into the gt30. The spool is not 3200-3500, its more like 4000, but you wont even notice because when you hit full boost your head will get ripped off and if you decide to tune for more power there is a lot left, there are some guys getting almost 500 with meth out of those turbos. I am sure some are getting more I just havent seen them. Go big or go home, good luck
The green is only worth getting and running on pump gas if you are very strict on maintaing stock like spool. The Green on meth is definitely worth while. I feel the GT30s are too inbetween and not worth it considering for a little extra lag you can get insane power from a 35R. I had the Green on meth with 440-450whp with 440+ ft/lb and it was faster than most would think.
I'm a newb on EVO's but the turbo's you guys use are pretty much the same we run. Yall just tend to make more power with the same turbo
.
Someone said yes to a green and no to a 50 trim. Are those not very similar turbo's? Also, for the OP, if you are worried about the Green getting you to the 400 mark, are the HTA Greens available to you guys yet?
It has been mentioned already and I have found it true.... you say you want 400awhp. That is a great number and respectable most anywhere you go. Thing is, you'll get sick of it. The first month or so will be great and then it will get old and you'll find yourself wanting more. Point being, always leave yourself room to grow as easily as possible. This could be as simple as having a race gas map as well as your 93 map, but turbo will play a major role in how much further you can go. I've seen EVO's hit the 400 mark on a stock turbo... if that is "ALL" you want, leave it at that especially if spool is a concern. And, as far as spool, keep in mind "full spool" does NOT equate to peak power.
...and, flooring your car, especially when your making good power, in the wrong pulling gear is hell on a clutch. Full boost at 60mph in 6th gear is bad joo joo. Odd load on a motor too.
All this is IMO obviously... I drive a Subaru so it has to be incorrect somewhere, right?

Let me be very simple about this. I don't want to run any fuel ever thats not 93 from a gas station.
I want to be faster than Mustang Cobra's, Corvettes, and similar cars that claim manufacturers "350 and 400 HP"
I want the car to be able to do 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds like the European FQ 400 can.
Mitsubishi calls the evo IX "286 horsepower" - I have heard that a stock evo IX is like 250 at the wheels. Well I want my car to be 400 at the wheels if Mitsubishi rated it. So I'm assuming on the sticker it would say about "420-430 HP", because thats about the same difference between crank/wheel power stock.
I just want to be able to wipe corvettes and other fast v8's off the road. Everybody makes things too complicated.
If the 30R AMS kit will do this without me noticing a difference in spool then I'll be happy with it.
I don't care if the 30R kit costs more than the FP green. I planned on spending more on a turbo upgrade.

Also, your guessing numbers from whp to crank HP are way off...I make 500whp.. that's closer to 600 crank HP. Like I said.... you have much to learn grass hopper.
If you're going to ask questions....
try to actually listen.

Only because you've tried to make things too simple. To be honest and quite blunt... you have quite a bit more homework to do. 30r, stock spool, and 4 cylinder should never be used in the same sentence( that should be common knowledge). If this is how you are approaching it, you should have bought a supercharged car. If you want to make power with a turbo car, you ARE going to sacrafice in the form of lag... PERIOD.

I will eventually upgrade to the 2.3 stroker.
Is a 30R 2.0 Faster than the FQ400? That does 0-60 in 3.5 and this is what I want.
This is an example of another members mods and what he got out of the stocker with meth. If you put a green on you should be @ 400 on pump.
- Megan 3" DP
- Buschur 3" Testpipe
- Buschur 3" Magnaflow Catback system
- Cosworth 272 Cams
- ARP Headstuds
- ETS Intake
- ETS 3" FMIC
- ETS LICP
- Forge DV
- Forge UNOS MBC
- TTP Methanol Kit @28psi
- Zeitronix ZT2 + Wideband 02
Boost Gauge
- 400 whp & 460 wtq
Why do you care about HP, don't you want a 11.2-11.4 1/4 mile time with 125-134 trap speeds?
Also when you are racing (not on the street) you will not notice the lag as much due to shifting @8k.
You need to go in a ride with someone so you can feel it your self and then decide.

I don't actually care about the HP. If I'm on a racing track and a Vette or Cobra pulls along side of me while were going about 60 mph I want to be able to shift down to 4th and beat him, easily. I want the Evo to be as fast as this new 2009 GTR.
I could give 2 craps about the quarter mile time. The 0-60 matters to me. I will never drive the car on a 1/4 mile track so I could care less.
The FQ400 Impresses me. This is why I bought this car. I want my car to be as good as if not better than the FQ400.
I will never put meth in my car.

My point was to take the meth off and put a green on instead of the stocker. Then get tuned on pump.
