What does it take to get an extremely reliable 400 AWHP?
I know it wont spool up as fast as stock, I just want something bigger where I wont notice the difference really. From 4000RPM to redline I want full torque.
I will eventually upgrade to the 2.3 stroker.
Is a 30R 2.0 Faster than the FQ400? That does 0-60 in 3.5 and this is what I want.

This is an example of another members mods and what he got out of the stocker with meth. If you put a green on you should be @ 400 on pump.

Why do you care about HP, don't you want a 11.2-11.4 1/4 mile time with 125-134 trap speeds?
Also when you are racing (not on the street) you will not notice the lag as much due to shifting @8k.
You need to go in a ride with someone so you can feel it your self and then decide.

I don't actually care about the HP. If I'm on a racing track and a Vette or Cobra pulls along side of me while were going about 60 mph I want to be able to shift down to 4th and beat him, easily. I want the Evo to be as fast as this new 2009 GTR.
I could give 2 craps about the quarter mile time. The 0-60 matters to me. I will never drive the car on a 1/4 mile track so I could care less.
The FQ400 Impresses me. This is why I bought this car. I want my car to be as good as if not better than the FQ400.
I will never put meth in my car.

I am trying to make what I see as its "weakest point" stronger.
I'm just saying that I'll never be on a quarter mile track. I like to get up and go. The evo has no problem jumping off the line like a bat out of hell, its weakest point is when shes rolling in top gear at low rpms. This is where I need the extra muscle, its hard to use all-wheel-drive to your advantage when your going 60 in top gear.

At 65 or 75 mph i'd be scared to shift into 3rd. I usually shift into 4th if I am trying to haul ***. I dont rev past 7k.

I learned not to over-rev piston engines too much on my last engine. I threw a rod through the block and had to swap another motor in to fix it. granted it was a much better motor but still it was alot of work.
I switched to rotaries for 3 years because of this and now this is my first piston car since then.
I think it is going to be a 30R
Eventually on a 2.3

intake, new IC pipes, and big intercooler
all supporting mods will be done.

It seems to me that you have a SERIOUS v8 complex. What are you going to do if you make the 400 with better top end power and then that Vette that you hate so much throws in 4-7 pounds of Procharger boost? You're back to square one. From a highway roll, he'll eat you. BUT... remember, throw in a turn at any point and you got it.. hands down.But I digress. I agree with a lot of what you've already heard. Pretty much everything to this point has been right on the money. if you don't want to use meth, you're most likely going to have to go bigger and deal with the lag with more tactical driving. But the best recommendation I can give you is... since you're getting tuned at AMS anyway, just ask them to put a recipe together for you. They've done this countless times, so I'm sure they'd be able to get you pretty much exactly what you want.
You keep bringing up the 30R after everyone gives you other advice. Why did you bother asking if you're already set on a 30R...just get the 30R, race your friends Vette and be done with it!

Doesn't really want to "notice" more lag but is insisting on running a 30r.

Said I would never do Cams, Bigger Turbo, Meth - blah blah....
Now 2 years later, I have GSC S1 Cams, Ported/Coated FP Green Turbo, And Precision 880cc Injectors, etc. etc.. lol
And I'm now in the process of getting a Meth Kit.
Problem is which one to go with.. Snow or Aquamist..
