How much is too much
I get on it maybe once every couple of weeks. I always warm up (according to oil temp, not coolant) and cool down before spirited driving. I also heel-toe/rev match wherever I go to minimize drive train shock. I also change my engine oil religiously every 5,000 miles with Eneos 0W-50 full synthetic, and my transmission, differentials, and transfer case fluid every 10k, or right after a track session.
By the way... driving quickly in a controlled fashion is different than beating on it in my opinion. Every moron can smash a gas pedal. It's the ones who drive with discipline and finesse that get my respect. I drive fast, very fast (I lived in Germany for some time in the military, so I'm used to it), but exercise proper lane discipline, etc. That doesn't mean I abuse my car.

I don't get on it often. I love spirited driving but cant find safe time/place to do it. I typically will accelerate excitedly but again, cant find the space to do it often. The car is a joy for me to drive, even slowly.
what do you define as beating? my definition is awd doughnuts, yanking the e-brake to do a j-turn, tracking, drag racing (launching), and rallying with maintenance. abuse is doing all those excessively without maintenance. i don't consider driving fast as beating. modding can lead to one or the other. LOL.
once in awhile more like 2-3x a week, if that. Im scared that once I get stage 1 of mods installed I"ll be beating on it some more but who cares??? Thats why we bought these cars for some spirited driving, lol.
damn some of you guys kill your cars lol i got 32,000 still on stock clutch, still have stock front brake pads and the stock advan tires lasted me for the first 20k. Oh and i had the back seats covered with the factory plastic for the whole first year. Hopes this helps me when i sell it.
also religiously changing oil and 5k doesnt seem to go together IMO. maybe if you did it ever 1k like the other guy that would make sense to me. maybe you should do it like the engine says, 3 months or 3,000 miles, not what the oil says "5k". or you can do what i think is the best, and always keep an eye on the oil, when it starts to get dark, CHANGE IT.
i suggest beating on the evo. its a rally car for gods sake!
Get ready to spend lots of money just on maintenance. You can judge how someone drives by how often they have to replace stuff.
9k New Tires Kuhmo Ecsta, New Clutch Exedy hyper single
20K New Tires (Goodrich), Brake Pads and Rotors ( I wore out the stock pad and rotors)
40K New Tires Kuhmo Ecsta, New Clutch Fidanza 3.2
46K(Current Mileage) New Plugs
50k New Tires, Timing Belt
55k-60k I predict new pads and rotors.
Oil replaced every 3k miles, Brake and all Drivetrain fluid replaced every 15k.
Enjoy.

well put and i'd relate to this one as well. I'd say 95% of the time I'm shortshifting at 3K-4500 rpm.
I forget which review had stated having an EVO is like having a cheetah for a house pet; but it's very true. I find a lot of fun just having it purr around and when it needs to stretch its legs it sure can!

I think abuse would mean more transmission related on launch. The car loves to go fast and the 4g63 is essentially bulletproof. Just make precise shifts and don't launch frequently (also doing it correctly) or at all.
i drive back and forth to my classes 4 times a week. never go above 4k.
here and there ill go through the gears like once a week. but thats usually on the highway on-ramp. nothing like entering the highway 30-40mph faster than everyone else.
i change oil every 3000, or 2500. just depends when i get the time.
my car has 12k on it.

lol this may sounds funny, but we compared two evos with exactly the same mods, one of them beats on the car and is a crazy driver, the other is a normal driver and mostly redlines on weekends.. the crazy car was so much faster :P~
