How much is too much
How often does everyone beat on their evo? I'm starting to get worried that i abuse mine a little too much. I don't exactly redline it every time i get in.. but just about every other time. I have about 340whp (mustang dyno), if that makes a difference. And my front tires already need replaced (I'm at 6300 miles) Just tell me what everyone thinks and how often you open up your evo on the street.
p.s. Now that i need new tires, what are some that are good but not too expensive? (No, I'm not cheap toward my evo, just a little broke from mods lol) Are the Eagle F1 All Season's okay?

ok, yeah i figured it would be okay.. but im just asking.. how much abuse is too much .. say i go out.. and in an hour redline it 4 or 5 times.. if i do that say every other time i take it out.. as long as i let it cool down before i turn it off and warm up before i take off is it okay to punish it like that? I love my car to death and want it to be around for a while.. I figure it's broke in so it should be alright, right??
+1 on changing the fluids. I probably pull at least one redline shift every time I get in the car, I can't resist.
I am at 318hp on a mustang dyno and have just under 30k on the odometer and haven't had major issues. I just change the oil and drivetrain fluids regularly. All 4 stock tires were done at 9k for me. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you keep up with your maintenence.

I don't have time to redline it very often.
I've redlined it two times this past week:
1) Boosting away from this crazy *** mother who was on the cell phone, definitely screaming at someone at the other end and she swerved to my side. I redlined that sh*t getting out of there.
2) Damn Semi-truck changed lanes without signaling, lucky I was already passing him, about halfway through, then I just gunned it because he just got too close.
Man, Evo is a fast car, but a safe one too!

I drive my Evo fairly conservatively, it probably sees redline 1-2 per week. I do take corners at high speeds though when it's safe to.
Check out the Sumitomo HTR+ if you want a really low priced all season performance tire.

I get on it maybe once every couple of weeks. I always warm up (according to oil temp, not coolant) and cool down before spirited driving. I also heel-toe/rev match wherever I go to minimize drive train shock. I also change my engine oil religiously every 5,000 miles with Eneos 0W-50 full synthetic, and my transmission, differentials, and transfer case fluid every 10k, or right after a track session.
By the way... driving quickly in a controlled fashion is different than beating on it in my opinion. Every moron can smash a gas pedal. It's the ones who drive with discipline and finesse that get my respect. I drive fast, very fast (I lived in Germany for some time in the military, so I'm used to it), but exercise proper lane discipline, etc. That doesn't mean I abuse my car.

I forget which review had stated having an EVO is like having a cheetah for a house pet; but it's very true. I find a lot of fun just having it purr around and when it needs to stretch its legs it sure can!

phew .. thanks for relieving the worries.. back to tearing up the streets..
