EVO or STi???
Obviously this is an evo thread and you all will say evo but I have a few questions. I am selling my Stage 2 2002 WRX, to upgrade to an STi or Evo. The guy that is buying my car happens to have both an Evo and STi, and he told me to go STi, and that his Evo has had way too many little problems. I wanted to get the opinion of some other Evo drivers, how do you like you car and what types of problems have you ran into from driving hard or just daily driving? Also i'd like to know how many MPG on average you guys get. I know I could just do research but i've done ALOT and figured i'd just make a new thread for other people that may have the same questions. Thanks everyone!

You didn't specify which Evo he has, I don't think you should be basing your purchase on his car problems. Look at the car you are actually buying and see what condition it's in. Evo's are a great car if you take car of them, just like any car for the most part. You need to use the search button on here, it really will answer most your questions.

Well the Evo is a high maintence car , its not a honda or toyota where u can drive 300K and not have to do much. I love my evo and personaly i don't mind the little things that evo's do have. a few things about evo's.....
early model evo 8 have weak bov's that can barely hold stock boost , mitsu soon replaced the plastic bov with a metal ones in the evo 9's which works to about 20.5 psi of boost
evo 8 have 9.8 cm TH which limits power , evo 9's got the 10.5cm housing which helps with more power of course
evo's all around have a TC issues if u beat them hard and do not change the TC fluid every 6,000 miles they will fail, evo 8's don't have a launch limitor so 7600 rpm rev limitor launchs will soon pop the TC the evo 9's i believe are set at like 5500 rpms. not 100% sure on this.
The 5 speed is a nice solid tranny if u take car of it , the 6 speed is a piece of glass , 4th gear is the gear the always goes , syncro's and gear it self. lot of guys once they blew it put the 5 speed in. Evo's do kinda shift notchy , but u get use to it.
clutch is also a weak link in all evo's so its a good early upgrade
fuel pump in the evo 8's is weak def wanna upgrade that one early on the evo 9's got alittle higher flowing one
maintence wise , oil change every 3k , tranny every 9k , tc and diff every 6k , spark plugs every 10K . so ya there are some high maintence factures here.
Also if u beat on it alot the head bolts do tend to stretch at 50K so throw some arp head studs in before u try running over 19psi.
Also evo's run very rich stock , so a nice reflash is a good idea.
If i had the chance to go with a evo or sti i would still choose a evo 9 se over the sti and over my evo 8. the evo 9 se is basicly a MR edition , but u get the stronger 5 speed. , Also the 5 speed is better for drag racing if thats what u tend to do.

Honestly, it's all about how well you take care of your car. Both EVO and STi can be very good DD's, though I've heard the STi takes the lead in this factor. I think the answer to your question would be for you to actually drive them both and see which would satisfy your taste. Do some homework and be patient choosing, you will be much happier in the long run.

Nice write up, except that the 6-speed is NOT glass
If you are on track a lot the 4th gear can go due to heat issues, but glass it is NOT. 1-3 is very strong, but b/c the gear case is the same as the 5 spd heat can build up and 4th gear can let go.
Again, this is ONLY if you're a hardcore track guy
