Another probable n00b...
Hi folks,
Just wanted to say hi and ask you folks some q's (especially those that have clocked some miles on). Today my wife and I went looking for a daily driver for her and we drove the STi and the EVO. The EVO won hands down in our opinion. Sure it might be a little slower in a straight line (that can be fixed with a chip) but having driven my other car a lot, we're both much more into handling and I was completely amazed at the lack of sway, chasis rigidity and stiffness. For around 30k it's a hella car.
Anyways over the next couple of days she'll be deciding upon the purchase (there's a silver, red and blue one all locally) but it's likely we'll have one soon. Is there anything to watch out for or any problems you guys have had? We're looking for a car that can be beaten pretty hard but don't want to spend more time in the shop than on the road
Thanks in advance and I just wanted to say I am in awe of the EVO...

The only bad thing i have found so far other than ride quality and lack of cruise control , is the fact that the car is painted with single stage paint. in other words it does not have a clear top coat. base coat / clear coat has been the standard for cars for i think 20 years or so , because of its durability. so , in other words this car is very suceptable to rock chips and oxidation. it also takes some different steps to protect its finish. if you want a better explaination ask your local auto body man. it will probably suprise him as much as it did mine. i hope this helps you make your decision , i wish someone had told me before i purchased. i do have to close saying that in-spite of these problems , i totally love my car.
good luck , hope you join us
good luck , hope you join us
Thanks for the heads up on that... Hence we were kind of thinking silver
To be honest, I can't remember the last time I used cruise control so I probably won't miss it.
Hopefully she'll nab one

Also SOME(underlined) people have had problems with the stock clutch....most apparently from dropping it at high RPM's .... exedy seems to be the set of choice for those replacing the stock clutch, so its not too bad

I've had my silver evo for about a month now, have 3800 miles, took it on a road trip, had to deal with love bugs from hell (grr). This being my 15th car (i'm 25 btw) has got to be my fav out of all I have driven in all areas. The paint on my car has held up great, granted I also wash it like every other day due to the horrid love bugs. For a daily driver, the way I drive which is like a bat out of hell, its great. So awesome for passing on the road and highway, plus the cops dont look at me as much in the silver as when I had my red prelude. Gotta love it. Its a great ride.

PS According to the stats, the Evo out-brakes and out-slaloms my car
'Course my car is far from being stock... but damn that's impressive.

i have just found out that there is a rapidly growing number of people having problems with the stock clutch. most are claiming that they are not abusing the car and the clutch is still going out before 5000 mi , with the dealership telling them it is not covered. one of the people ,infact, bought his car from the same dealership i did mine. if you replace the clutch with after market , of course , mitsu will not cover any of the very expensive parts connected to it. i am praying that mitsu will address this problem , though it may take quite some time.
Good to know on the clutch thing then... I've been pretty luck with mods etc... on the Porsche so I guess it's all about finding the right SA and dealer isn't it? I know some in California are renound for being little punks.
i just broke 7300 miles with dozens of launches. fast slips no drops and my clutch is still kickin. i suspect it will have a early death but i dont think its half as bad if you dont totally beat the **** out of it with 7k drops.
