Evo Tuning

so, I'm new to this idea of tuning your evo...or even your car.

If I say get the EVO X, and want it tuned, what am I tuning it for?

Do I tell the guy, "hey, I want it faster?" than okay, sure thats what he does then? Or if I want it to accelerate faster here or there....then make it so?

i'm not sure I understand what you ask for when tuning....is a tune just a tune, I mean, there all the same for the most part?

uhg, i'm such a noob at this crap.

tuning makes the car run smoother and picks up hidden power. Some parts dont make power until theyre tuned for.

Cheers!

thanks, but what I don't understand is what to tell a tuner.

Do I just show up to a guy who tunes Evos and tell him I want something specific tuned or does just do a full tune of the car?

tell your tuner you want to maximize the powerband to its fullest potential!!! You should see approx. 40 hp gain (give or take depending on the tuner) from tuning a stock car...
of course you want it faster, but if you word it right, you dont look like such a newb

some people also tune specificly for gas mileage...
Just make sure your not getting a "block Tune". Make sure he tunes the car for cruising as well as under "WOT"

just tell the tuner what you bolted on and he'll tune for those mods.

If you go to a PRO you can get away w/ that! I went to a shop (I'll leave nameless) told him my mods, let him do his thang... and got a horrible tune. Boost was stock, timing was stock, the only thing that was changed was AFR...

So in recap: Tell him your mods, and you want a complete tune, not just for under wot!

okay that helps, so you DO infact have to tell a tuner that you want something specifically done.

got it!

Evo tuners tune for maximum safe power unless you tell them you'd like it otherwise at which point they may tell you to tune it yourself then.

Yes and no, Your chosen tuner should tune the engine to the best of his ability in the time afforded but different tuners have differing experience and methods so results vary. Obviously knowing who is a good or bad tuner is the tough part.

If you'd like to know more about the various tuners and their methods so that you can make a good choice I suggest asking some to tell you about their services.
