Differences between EVO8 and EVO9?

What are all the differences between the EVO8 and EVO9? I know the 9 came out with smoked head and tail lights. Anything else in the exterior? What about the mechanical aspect? Bigger turbo???

Lastly, off the original subject. Did they make a Blue MR? Thanks guys! Looking forward to being a member of the club soon. Got my eyes peeled for a blue one!

get the 8 if your gonna mod the crap out if, get a 9 if your doing light mods, if you plan on staying stock get an MR.

They didn't make a blue mr. The 9 has mivec and a slightly larger compressor. The interior is basically the same with different seats and carbon trim on the dash.

IX turbo has a bigger compressor, engine has MIVEC (variable valve timing) and usually make more power vs an 8 mod for mod, stock turbo vs stock turbo. AFAIK, other then cams, all other parts are interchangeable. Get the 9, the turbo sucks though so upgrade right away and sell me your stocker for 200$ j/k

No one has mentioned it, but the most obvious difference is the front bumper. Also, the supports for the wing are no longer made of carbon fiber (but the wing itself still is), which isn't really a huge deal. Mechanically, other than what has already been discussed, I believe the engine also has upgraded parts that help reduce oil burning. The Enkei wheels on the non-MR and non-SE models are a little different in design and weigh slightly less.

I did not know they didnt put the mivec until 2006. Thats definitely something I will have to look into. Right off the bat, I would put a full catless turboback exhaust, cobb AP, Intake, and maybe cams, and then get a protune and keep low key for a while. Unless you have some other suggestions. I heard they upgraded the BOV, was that in 06 or did they do that earlier?

If that's all you plan on doing (though I do realize that you indicated that those were your plans "right off the bat"), one thing to keep in mind is that a VIII with a TBE, cams, upgraded fuel pump and a tune will be putting down similar numbers to a IX with a TBE and tune only, so it's definitely a lot easier to exploit power with fewer mods in a IX.

Evolutions come with diverter valves not blow off valves and there is a difference. The 06 came with the jdm me valve which was made entirely of metal and not plastic. This valve holds marginally more boost than its plastic counter part. You should stick with a 9 if you can. One thing nobody mentioned is its resale value. I think a 9 in the future will be a much easier sale than the 8.

I think I am going to look for an 05. I really don't like the front bumper on the 06 although I like the smoked heads and tails.

It's blue or nothing! Are you the one that bought that 03 that looked modded?
