The insurance gap between STIs and EVOs.....

Does it seem to be a common occurence that EVOs are so much less than STIs on insurance? I just got off the phone with progressive and comprehensive on the EVO will only run me $80 and the STI $170 monthly. Doesn't really make sense as they both share alot of the same features. Perhaps there's some underlying stats that knock up rates on STIs like theft? Thanks

I wondered the same thing. I pay $789 06 STI vs $568 Evo IX MR respectively for a 6mos policy $500 deductable.

Understeer penalty maybe?

Honestly dude (and I'm sure you're a cool kid) I don't think any 18yo is worthy of an EVO or STI but that's my .02

Yeah. STIs are more expensive than Evos to insure. I'm betting because there are more STIs out there to get wrecked. Possibly under steer. Hah.

I wish I could afford $500 a month for insurance, and a car payment for the EVO. Now with gas going up, the EVO is one expensive car to have.

When I called my insurance company for a quote, an Evo was more expensive than an STi. All of the lists I've seen for most expensive cars to insure have had the Evo on top too, but I haven't seen one for 2008 yet.

I think I read once that that the break point for higher insurance in regards to horsepower is 300. So with the evo coming in with less than 300 and the STi over 300, the STi gets the insurance penalty. I think it's actually a smart move on Mitsu's part. Anybody can make more power if they want it.

Previous to the latest STi, parts were easily interchangable between the STi and the regular WRX. If you ever went to Nasioc, every other day you'd see one WRX or STi stolen. That's enough to make them more expensive to insure. Not to mention first year models in the US (2004) didn't have an immobilizer. That alone steered me away from getting one.

I pay 790 a year full courage on my car. BUT that is with a multi car discount and I beleive a 7K a year mileage cap tho. I put 1700 mi on my car last year so Im no worried about mileage caps at all.
