Buying an EVO 9

Hey I am buying an EVO in the next couple of days and I was just wondering how much I should undercut what the dealer is asking. I have on lined up to test drive on Friday. They are asking $27,999 for a 2006 Evo MR with 37,877 mi on it. I am sorry if there is a place this thread would be better suited my first posting so just let me know if I need to delete and move it

I was thinking about offering them about $25,000 for it. Do you think that is money that would be well spent on something different?

I paid a little more for a 06 MR with 12k on it... I'd either talk them down to rougly 24k or just look around for better deals.

Yeah, I'd try and talk them down. But then this could always come up (damn greedy dealers), "We don't have to lower the price, we can easily sell the car" then the car is gone . Depends how bad you want it and if you willing to lose the car and look around everywhere. GL with the sale. Hope you get it for what you want.

There's like 5 new X's around my way. Stupid dealer markup of 5k. Greedy bastards, thats why none of them sold yet. GSR for 40k? Crazy, I'd get an elise, always wanted one.

Thanks so much guys for the reply I will be much more confident now when I offer them less Yes the car is bone stock. They were originally asking $28,999 for it but they lowered the price cuz they were not selling it and it has been on there website for a little over a month now. So hopefully they are trying to get rid of it. Here is a link if anyone wants to take a look at it for me. http://stevens-creek-subaru.ebizauto...r-2886914.htmlThanks again for the help guys my new favorite forum. Can't wait to be a fellow owner.

seems like the new hot thing to do. Nissan GT-R are going for nearly twice MSRP apparently. I guess you just got to wait out the first rush.

IMO it seems like low mile mint stock IX MR are going for ~$28-29K by what seems to be around here. The model your looking at is higher miles, so you want to deduct for that. If its in Mint condition, the dealer is probably in the negotiable ballpark for fair deal. The key is condition, pictures are decieving. If its a previously hits, 'back to stock race' car that been beat, the dealer spent hours cleaning the interior out from fast food, and it dinged on every body panel look from being parked in the city, the value needs to be adjusted appropriately (or passed for another one)

You might be a little ambitioius trying to get the dealer to 25K but you can always try Almost every dealer has some wiggle room in negotiating the price, I would think you should be able to get it in the $26k's

Dealers have a lot more flexibility in used cars than new ones. used ones are probably traded in at black book value and those customers really take a hit . Dealers mark it at retail when they are selling it so there is enough margin.

Well, its not a MR, but I paid a little over $27k for my Evolution IX. It was bone stock except some Hoen lights with less than 2,000 miles on it. But I also bought it from an individual so I didn't even have to pay ad valorem or sales tax on it last year when I purchased it.

wouldn't doubt someone else would buy it beause IX's are hard to find to many people who aren't willing to travel.

The dealership I went to tried pulling that on me when I bought my IX MR. Once they said that I basically got up and was about to leave and then once the sales guy realized that I was ready to leave he asked me to give him a chance and they finally agreed on a price I wanted.

Hey guys thanks for all the feedback. I went to the dealership yesterday. I offered them $28,000 out the door since that is really all I can afford. With California sales tax around my area at 7.75 percent I was offering around $25,550 for the car. I was also going to be putting $20,000 down on it. i was denied they said they did not have that much wiggle room and that at the price that they have t listed at they would only be making a $400 dollar profit. So I am stil on the prowl. They have given me a call back already though so who knows. It was a beautiful car though. And the test drive once again convinced me that this is a car I must have.
