5 speed evo 9, vs mr????
another thing.... are there many aftermarket companies that make rally parts? i have a friend with an sti, and he has skid plated everything, gotten a stronger "rally" bumper, put in forester coilovers to raise it a tiny bit and have more travel, and a bunch of other small stuff and its a beast on dirt and snow, and it can really take a beating. and thats sorta what id want to do with an evo. i race shifter karts and a do a little bit of spec racer ford racing in the summer, and since i live in the mountains, there's ice racing, and a couple snow rally's that im kinda interested in doing. my sti friend already did some last year and it was awesome.
I was thinking of doing it with my s4 but then i realized how expensive that would get.

also, for power mods, im not looking for some straight line machine, and i want to keep reliability, id say id be happy with around 330-350 whp when its all done. and coming from a 6cyl twin turbo, i already know im gonna be dissapointed with how much turbo lag there is. and this is one of the main things id want to change when modding it, would a smaller quicker spooling turbo be a good idea? or is the stock turbo good enough? should i stick with bolt ons at first?
Ok, I have had an 03 gsr and now an 06 mr. I would pick the 06 mr everyday of the week and twice on sunday. I do have 350 whp and do launch the car and drive it hard sometimes but not stupid and I have not had one issue with my clutch and thats with 13000 miles. I am not particularly biased I just like my mr better, its an evo you can't go wrong anyways!
I can ninja shift better with the 5spd!
Although the feel of the 6 speed is kind of nice. If I had a choice, I'd still go with the 5spd in the end.
As for legacy GT's.. I've been looking at selling/trading my evo for it. Only for the reason that it's a little bit of a cushier ride, and comes in auto. Performance wise... it's like driving an A4 and your S4. Hehe.. not that the legacy's can't be fast, but handling and acceleration is just starting off at a very far distance apart.

but the evo is such an amazing performing car, i think i could forget about the looks pretty easily and just focus on how fun it is to drive.
you can buy very heavily modded lgt's for well under 20 grand, there was one a couple months ago with 400whp, a bunch of suspension mods, and the best is that it was a wagon.
now i dont want 400whp, that just seems like id have reliability problems, but i could easily buy a 350 whp lgt wagon for like 16k, then do coilovers and stiffen the ride up a ton and it would be an amazing car.
i know stock for stock a lgt cant come near to a evo's handling. and i dont know how much you know about lgt's but do you know much about how they handle with a ton of suspension/chassis mods? if i could have a lgt wagon or maybe sedan that handles as good as a stock evo, that would be good enough for me.
The way I look at it; car's are meant to be broken and repaired. Get w/e and deal with it.
I bet you liked the way that "S4" badge look on your trunk?!?! Wouldn't you want the same on your EVO?!?! But instead of an S4 it's an "MR". Oh yeah.... you know what I'm talkin' about.

I have a 6 speed and its really notchy (not too bad), guess the only reason to bash it. If you never intend on running more than 400 whp then the only reason why you wouldnt want the MR is cause...........?
The difference is that a S4 offers a significant increase in performance over an A4, where as a MR does not.
yeah i think id get the mr if i had enough money, if i could get one for say 20 grand id do it, but im only looking to spend like 18 or so and to actually get an mr you need to spend atleast 5 grand more. and since you really dont get a performance increase it doest seem worth it.
Would you rather have a Sony HDTV or a Sanyo HDTV? Their both great TV's, but SOME people prefer top-of-the-line models. See what I'm saying?
