newbie here...have some Q's plz help
i am looking into buying my first Evo. i've only owned hondas, but am now crossing over to the other side.
i am looking into either the Evo VIII or the IX i was wondering what some of the differnences are, and if people have preferences to either one and why?
either way i'm gonna get the MR i just cant decide if i want the 8 or 9. if you all could take sometime to explain the differnence and maybe the differnent features one has over the other that would be great. i have looked into them and found a few difference, like one has a few more HP. but which one is more reliable? and about how long can i expect my evo to last if i take decent care of it. i kno i'm gonna beat on it some.
do they last at least 100,000 miles on average. i'm not asking you how long mine will last, i am asking the average life of these vehicles. are there any known problems with them? ECU's blowing, turbos blowing? thanks all for your time and help.

i figured with the mods i plan to have, little beating, but not slamming gears, lol i guess i shift like a ***** but ill still be fast. and maybe not cams, and doing all on time maintenance, mine should last to about 150k or more, maybe with a stock 9 turbo replace after a while when mine whears out or whatever, and gaskets and headstuds to strengthen it up a bit after 60k miles or so.
well if ur going to get the mr i hope you like shifting alot cuz its a close gear ration, another thing is i hope you dont like sun roofs like me because they dont come with one and aslo about the reliability it will last as long as u want it to , well sorta it just depends on you care of it and how u treat it take good car of it and it will do the same to u and remeber its not a honda no more trying to chirp tires all the time
yeah i agree, no chirping, lol. i drives my friends silver evo IX for the first time and there was these faske gang bangers, lol, you guess what happend, i tried to chirp it in second, i put it to around 5k rpm and tryed to slip the clutch, and 2 houses down when we got to his house. you could smell clutch, so i figured i wouldnt do that in mine. lol
:) I have a '06 IX MR and I push it hard and I drive insane with it pretty often....But at the same time I take better care of my car than I do with myself. I make sure the service is done regularly, I get the tires rotated regularly, I make sure the tires are inflated with the right amount of air pressure. I give regular car washes, I changed the tires as soon as new ones were needed also. I make sure my mods and services are done by the most reliable and knowledgeable mechanics. I have about 17,000 miles on my Evo right now and I'm having my clutch changed today since the stock one was slipping badly. If you take care of the Evo it will last more than 100,000 miles, I am sure of that. The only concern is that if you mod your Evo, then your expenses will rise and and you will have to maintain the performance and life of the car. For example, I spent about $3,000 on mods for my Evo, and the power increased on the car. A couple of weeks later my clutch went completely bad. I had to spend another $785.00 on a brand new clutch/fly wheel. And did I mention another $550.00 for the clutch install. Bottom line is that the Evo will last a very long time if you take very good care of it, but the expenses can get very high during ownership. No regrets for me and my Evo though. All the best!

WOW if he is willing to sell u a 9 MR with 4k on the dial for 25-26k go for it other people are selling similar milage evos for 30k so that would be a steal on your part. but i was gonna say do u plan on drag racing your car cuz the mr 6 speed isent the best way to go well gearing wise, i know from experience but i still love mine and good luck with that seller u found
i got another guy who has one for 21k and has 10k miles on it. it's white but has 4 chips in it. i'm gonna see what i can talk over with him as well. all i need is 19 for my car and i am good to go.
I don't regret my MR at all, but I hear all the time that the MR transmission is not good for holding high-horsepower. I hear that it's not good for drag racing also. This is what I've heard. I hate to hear all this "weak transmission" stuff about the MR's 6 speed, but I still hear it all the time. I personally love my MR's transmission and I have no problems with it....But if you're planning on adding loads of power on the MR, then I would think it over. It's better to be safe than sorry. If I had a chance to go back into the past and choose between getting the 6 speed MR or the 5 speed GSR, then I would have probably gone with the 5 speed. The reason being is because I hear that the 5 speed is simply stronger. I got the MR feeling confident in it being the top Evo. I haven't had any problems with my MR transmission, but it's just the chatter from so many Evo guys that keeps dinging in my head. I still love my MR and I plan on keeping it for the years to come....And I strongly feel that I got the most desirable Evo of the pack, despite all the gossip.
