All good info, Just make sure the car runs strong to begin with. The leak down and compression test, as well as a good looking over/test drive, will tell you that.

I bought my Evo used, 1 owner at 61K. Did a leakdown which showed lowest cyl. was number 4 at 7%. I thought that the compression was high across the board but I am an old DSM guy so I was used to seeing low numbers.

Car has about 79K on it now, I haven't done any work to it but plan on it soon.

More to the point, mileage isn't the concern. You could give me a car with 300K on it and if the internal condition is good, I'll still mod it. External items like water pumps and hoses and such I consider consumables on a long enough timeline, so make sure the core is good to go, replace any suspicious consumables, and do whatever you please.

the more miles the better, I find excuses to upgrade.

"hmmm, there is a surface rust spot on my exhaust, i should get a turboback exhaust to fix it"

haha that is a good point. i plan on doing a compression test and test drive and things like that to see if the car is still good and was taken care of. i really like this one with 51000 miles and the guy says its stock but i gotta try and get it out of him if he returned to stock or if it has actually been stock for its whole life. if so it should be mint! whats a leak down test and whats the typical compression in each of the 4 cylinders for an evo?
