intake problem mabe??

hey yeh well i just put on a cone K&N filter with an adapter and what not to replace the box. so everything sounds fine and fits sturdy and it doesnt idle funny but when i go to step on it it will hit like 3200rpm and start to spool higher then the rpms will drop to like 2800rpm and you can hear it and then it will take off and you now how it is =).

so idk whats the deal with that it was never like that with the stock box

any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Funny you should post this =). I actually have the same setup. Out of the box I had no problems but recently I experienced the same issue where is seemed as though the turbo was surging or something.

Go get some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner (about 4-6 bucks) from your local auto store. Take apart your intake and pull the MAF off. Then be sure to follow the directions and clean the MAF really well.

I performed this yesterday because of the same issue and now it runs super smooth.

Did you get tuned for it? Why not just a drop in?

How many miles ? Stock clutch?
Sounds similar to a clutch problem.

Clean the MAF sensor and see if it gets better.

Try it in say 4th gear if the R's go up and the speed doesn't it's the clutch.

K Bump on this post! My car is now back to behaving as the Op described after I cleaned the MAF. I did check all hoses for leaks and checked to make sure I had no disconnected lines. I realized that if I do a smooth linear acceleration I do not see the behaviour described by the Op, but if I floor it PRESTO crazy RPM spiking. Continueing to search for the answer

tried the clutch method mentioned earlier in this thread and worked fine =/...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ht=rpm+spiking
Found this and I was wondering if this could be the problem. Unlike the mod Im experiencing the surge or spiking at a higher rpm like around 4 or 5k.

"RPM spiking" and boost spike are 2 different things.

Hmm... Ok I can hear the turbo spool harder, if thats even a term =/, as the rpms jump about 500rpm before dropping back down and behaving as normal. I assumed the boost was spiking as well cause I get a nice throw back prior to the rpm drop. Kinda fun but makes it appear as if I cant drive though LOL. Im still droning around the forums to see what I can come up with.
