not many problems with my Evo 8 MR i put 11K in 12 months making the car just under 50K when i sold it.

only problem was tie rods were replaced from the owner before me and his autocross habit.

Its a solid car

The 4G63 has been around for a long time, and is a proven platform for power and reliability. but like any vehicle it will have its problems its a "mitsu" not a "maytag" haha good luck

I agree that she's generally a solid car, but I'm surprised no one mentioned these;

- transfer case issues on early cars ('03-'04s?)
- HVAC mixer knobs
- faded Brembos
- water corrosion in wire harness through fenderwell
- rust under wing mount pillars
- sunroof sticking

I think some of these were addressed in TSBs, if you search you'll get an idea for how extensive these have been. In some cases it seems it's been more rare, and for others not, these are just the ones I've become aware of in a few months of ownership and reading here.

But don't let any of these scare you, even the most reliable marques have made products w/achilles heels.

i had my 03 when it came out. i NEVER had a problem that wasnt my fault ( left car for a month with mini battery). i drove up and down the east coast 2 times a year and daily drive everyday 45miles each way.

over all i cant believe how sound these cars are, especially since it has the equivalent to the buschur stg 4 with aem and methanol.
however i'm not one of those jack asses that boost every chance given.

word of advice as everyone said is maintenance. i changed the clutch and brakes once. I also finally figured out that if you get semi performance tires( all season as opposed to summer) you dont have to change them as often

they are pretty reliable machines, just as long as you do your regular servicing of the car then you will be fine with your purchase, just get a mech who know about the evo to do a thorough check when you are buy, my .02cents

That's probably because this thread already existed?

In my experience my Evo VIII has been very reliable. If someone tells you their Evo was unreliable then they either have a very powerful car or they are retards who don't know how to take care of a car.
