Looking To Tune My 2003 Evo8 Plz Help

i just bought a 2003 evo 8 and all it has done is a 3in catback, Im looking to build a car that is good on gas and still has power for the races in san diego, but the car is also my daily driver. I am looking to make around 400hp to 450 tops for now and have no clue what to do to start. Also i have been reading around the site and everybody talks about the different dynos and how your car changes based on daily use and how you drive so im just looking for a overall tune that wont require me to keep on flashing the ecu and what not. Any help would be greatly accepted and thanks in advance i know you guys get this a lot prob.

im assuming you mean 400-450 to the wheels? as you will hear from everyone parts are useless without a good tune, so that is crucial. want a good tuner to strap it to the dyno once all the parts are bolted on. assuming you want that much power, start with the basics: intake, upic/licp, front mount, downpipe (with/without a cat), you already have the cat back, going to need a bigger turbo (gt30, gt 35), boost control, cams etc...good thing about evos are that even with minor bolt ons than are crazy fast. as im sure you already know, once you start getting that power, looking into some suspension (sways/coilovers), bigger brakes, and some fatter stickier tires and you should have a machine that will tear up the streets in cali. gl on the build, should be fun

yea thanks i've been looking for tuners/installers around here but can't find any i want someone that will look at my car then help me build it. But i want these people/person to know what they are doing and not be some random person that if i spend the money and the car doesnt perform they are just gonna bail. i go the money to tune now i just need the spot. overall i want to be comforable and make sure im getting the most out of my money because in the end i have to go to work every day and the evo gets me there.

ps anybody know anyone in san diego that is a good tuner but not crazy in price that will help me. I am very new to this but would love to learn anything and everything.

Call Buschur Racing and get your parts from them! Best in the business, bar none! As for tuning since you arent close to Buschur, use Mellon! He is an amazing tuner, expecially with the stock ECU and he will be more than willing to help you set-up the right parts for what you want. Those 2 people / shops and you will be amazed at what you car will do!

there are a lot of good tuners in southern california. i live in san diego as well... the only awd dyno in SD is at reese.

www.reesetuning.com

At reese, ecu flash/dyno pulls is $355. If you want ECU boost control (vs. manual boost controller) the solenoid is another $120 installed. I am doing the bolt ons for my ix right now and am still undecided as to where I will get it tuned.

there are a ton, and i mean a ton, in the OC and LA areas. Tuning Technologies, Massimo, Looney Tuned, RRE, etc.

i'd say your best bet is joining socalevo.net and poking around on there. There are a lot of threads like yours over there. Hope this helps. Hit me up on here or socalevo (same name) if you have questions.

edit: also, don't call up any tuning place and say "i want to make 400 hp wtf do i do?!" most will probably hang up the phone. do some research, buy some bolt ons, etc

get your basic bolt ons done (there are tons of dyno sheets on here and socalevo that document what mods give you what power) and then have it tuned. then go from there if you want bigger turbo, etc.

I'm talked to James Reese on many occasions in the past when he was first getting up and running and still hear from him occasionally. He's a very nice guy so if you're local to him you could give him a try.
