Hey guys,
My name is Tyler and I currently attend United States Military Academy. Prior to that, I lived in Michigan (3 years?) where I drove an 06 Sti (WRB on Gold BBS) with minor bolt ons (1/4--12.7 @ 108 ish).
Obviously I am obsessed with cars since that's all I thought about in Michigan and now. Michigan has... or had a HUGE car community where we met every week, cruised, and went to the strip/circuit.
Unfortunately, I sold the subaru since I couldn't take my car to the academy... It would have been sitting in the garage for 2+ years. I have a year or so until I can drive again
... and I decided to check out what Evo's were all about... and I'm HOOKED! There's a huge amount of DSM/Evo people in Michigan that I know and I've never even considered Evo's until I got in one... One day I got a ride from a girl in a white evo. It was a totally different animal. Subaru was fast, but it was the low/mid range power that made it fast. For Evo's, it was like being pulled by a rubber band and let go when it's fully stretched.
Ever since then, I've been looking at Evo's and I think I'm addicted to this forum now. I've been researching a lot lately for my purchase next year (probably winter of 09/spring of 10). I know it's still a lot of time and parts will develop, but it doesn't hurt to study early
I thank you guys for having such a great site for me to really get a sense of things. It seems like evo's are just so much easier in terms of modifying it, which is a plus for me since I'm not a mechanic but willing to learn.
My plan is to purchase a 2006 Evo IX SE in either WW (1st choice) or TB. From then, I know for sure that I will have about $7-10k saved to spend on FP Red set-up with all the supporting mods by that time. I guess I'll keep on researching about various parts and find that perfect combo for me that's suitable for my driving needs (pump gas daily driver, weekend driven, reliable yet fun to drive, maybe one or two track runs in summer time)
I know that's a lot to read but I just wanted to say hello
Now for reading all that... a glimpse of where I came from:

welcome man! definately made the right switch from the sti. when i was looking for cars all my friends had sti's and i like them alot, until i starting reading about the evo and then of course went for a drive in one. +1000 on easier and cheaper to mod than an sti. my buddy has basically the same parts and power as me and spent twice as much. 06 SE sounds awesome and TB FTW! def read as much as you can, there is a ton to learn and this forum is very helpful for the most part. gl at school, i have a couple of friends there with you and i know its tough. thanks in advance for your future service and gl with the purchase!

yea, E85 would be nice but I don't think there's any around here (NY) and I tend to drive a lot (and very far) so pump gas/alky is the way to go... kind of shaky on alky since that's another thing that can fail make my face go:

Another thing I have to consider is that it'll be parked most of the time outside (student parking) and I'd be worried about alky running out (no hardware stores around post... it's a freakin fort lol) Built block does cost a bunch, but I think it'll be a safer bet... and set me up for any bigger set-ups in the future.
