Warming up your car...
As an EMT, I respond to calls in the middle of the night (freezing temps here in VT) with my evo, and there's not really time to warm it up. The 4g63 sputters and complains under partial throttle when cold, but if you really need to put the hammer down, it'll do it for you. Course, I've got no idea what that's doing to the internals....
But when the internals die, I guess it's just a sign that I ought to go to a 2.3!
P.S. - the evo saved a lady's life the other day - she was choking, and I was able to respond to the scene 13 MINUTES earlier than the ambulance. She wasn't going to be able to make it 13 minutes w/out breathing. Wonder if that counts as a tax write-off?

^ 50 degrees is freezing. i mean i love SD but lets be honest here...haha. i live in philly but go to skool in upstate NY, if its above 30 its shorts weather. let her sit for a couple mins then like everyone else said, the best way to warm it up is drive. just take it real easy till the temp is up. drives like crap cold, hard to shift and feels awful.
^dave, where about philly do you live? i am now just starting to meet evo people in that area and wondering if you go to any of the evo meets. im sick of hanging out with my Sti friends...sry to thread jack, enjoy the cali sun!

for real man, when its 50 here I dont even wear a jacket. But I used to own a turbo VW and it said right in the manual to actually not let it warm up at idle. Let it sit until the choke turns itself off(the high idling right at startup) once the revs drop drive it and keep it below 3k and out of boost as much as possible.
yeh in the winter like this its in the teens when i drive out in the morning so its impossible not to start it before. i would freeze to death lol. but i always start it up in winter and in summer just drive it easy till its warmed up, though i dont drive it hard anyways but i think i remember when i was looking through the owners man it said not to let it stay in idle for more than 15 mins. is that true or maybe that idea just somehow got into my mind?
I usally wait for the car to warm up all the way have all ways done this from the first car that i had but you could wait atleast 5 minutes in the winter for all the oil to flow to the pump and 2 minutes in the summer in ny gets very cold in the single digits.
It was 1 without wind chill this morning...50s is definitely hoodie and shorts weather. I usually wait till the needle moves slightly and take it easy until it hits normal operating temp.
the evo doesnt take long at all to warm up being that is a 2.0l...i am also one to wait until the needle is just above the line, then drive it easy til it gets to operating temp.
I auto start my car about 3-5 minutes before I leave. The needle is just over the bottom line, and I drive it like I would any other time.
Plus, my bov sounds like a rabbit when my car is cold haha

Please do yourself a favor and warm up your car. It's good on the turbo and good on the rest of the engine. Your friend is a fool if he doesn't warm his car up.
